sabertooth was letting him fall in love with women then killing them on his birthday. He accidentally killed his mom, had to kill a bunch of his own kids, and had to be the catalyst for "killing" another woman he loved. All that is on top of the fact that he's "died" numerous times and had to fight death to come back to life, then had to make that decision in the face of sometimes having the option to rest with his dead loved ones.

Sabretooth is just one guy.

Others have been involved in murdering Wolverine's love interests or people who were close to him.
