He brought an alien baby to prehistoric krypton. And everytime the baby got killed by prehistoric krypton's creatures or hazardous enviroments, Bertron would clone that baby and throw it back to krypton again.
After decades, Bertron finally created Doomsday by this method( Comics you know, Always silly)

Yeah. More precisely, it was an "Eleka'an event horizon projector". Not sure what an Eleka'an event horizon is exactly, but the weapon was designed to one-shot-kill cosmic beings, so it's pretty badass. Galactus once said he doesn't attack Shi'ar planets; weapons like this are probably the reason why.
