Squirrels

I have a back yard, and a front yard that are under constant siege by squirrels. I've spent money on the audio repellers, the scatter around squirrel repellent, the spray bottle repellent... Useless. They dig up new grass the first day I pull the netting off it.

I bought ten pounds of chili powder, but the best solution so far has been squirt guns. They HATE bring squirted. They now run away as soon as I pop open my blinds to look out. Now, this isn't a perfect solution, because they are still out there from time to time, butt at least they are all irritated by me as I am by them now.

I ordered a super soaker 60 off eBay-- because squirt gun tech had gone waaay backwards since I was a kid. This should be nostalgic and fun... Right now they run to the neighbors tree when they see me, but with added range I'm hoping they will feel like they have to move away.

Squirrels get into my garage and rip open bags of bird seed.

Just try to talk to people who don't take care of yards about taking care of yards, and their eyes glaze over. That was me as well. It's like fantasy football, except a lot of people in the same league.

Back when I lived in this house that had this lovely black fig tree, out of every ten figs I maybe got two, maybe, because the squirrels and the crows would get to them first. True story.

I definitely considered trapping them- turns out they are protected in illinois. Trapping without a permit is a pretty big fine, and a permit is pretty difficult to get.

My particular problem is in a neighborhood in Chicago. Any guns are a no go.

A light bow.

A Canine / Feline Hunter.

An automatic sprinkler system.

A dog is definitely in my future. I'm going through a little house renovation at the moment (another thing stopped dead for two weeks while I quarantine...). But getting a dog afterwards. I love pitbulls, but you really do have to keep them secret from your homeowners insurance... Which is ridiculous, every one I every met was a great big baby.

I had a friend who used to live a few blocks away from me, 2 blocks actually. His dad was a cook county sheriff and would shoot possums if they came into his yard lol.

I think that counts as privilege. 🙂 I'm thinking I couldn't get away with that, with the BLM flag in the yard. Haha.

This is some thing which you may consider;

A beehive.

You'll have to plant the flowers to support it.

But it will give you endless honey refills

A property I have a share in has two beehives and a wasp's nest.

They like their peace. Any noisy critter which comes along. They investigate to protect all their base which are belong to them.

squirrels? WTF?

You can eat opossums and squirrels but I wouldn't shoot an oppossum gotta trap them and feed them cornmeal for a few days😛

You could get a blow gun for squirrel but really that's a tough tool to use for that.

I should correct the record, he'd shoot *at* possums. I don't think he ever hit one. But there was one standout occasion with a drunken incident at like 2am when he saw one by his pool and took some shots.

And I'm not saying why the pool needed repairs afterwards. But it did. And more water too.

Are they ground squirrels or tree squirrels

possums...
