I don’t see the federal government as the main problem, it is one of the problems, but historically also has often been the best counterweight to states and private enterprises screwing the common person. Ideally, to me, there is a balance of powers with a lot of checks to protect both minorities from the tyranny of the majority, and the poor and unpowerful from the tyranny of the rich and powerful (the biggest problem in the US right now, imo). The federal government can be one building block of that, but needs to be much better. Generally I’m not against moving more power into local and communal hands though.
