For sure, but Saddam’s regime being bad does not justify the aggressive war based on lies that the US waged in Iraq, nor the innumerable suffering said war has caused, nor the not unpredictable vacuum that was created to fuel the rise of ISIS.

I’m not a fan of the human rights abusing regimes of Saudi Arabia and Israel either, but wishing for a military invention to right the monstrous wrongs they commit would be ludicrous. Of course there are points where military interventions are justified, like in World War 2, but Iraq was not an example of ther, and at any rate the liberatory rhetoric was only a smoke screen for the real neo-conservative US interests in the region anyways.

And it was all done with the approval of the Republicans in the White House during the 1980's, because Saddam was their point man against Iran and the Ayatollah. When the gas attack happened in 1988, the US refused to sanction Saddam for it.
