If anything the people made unemployed should have been getting $2k/month. Arguing against giving $2k as a one off this far into the pandemic is bloody ridiculous.

Oh and all the while the Fed has been pumping Billions into the Stock Market. IOW giving hand outs to the rich is fine. But $2k to the ordinary tax payer whose been told to stay at home is apparently some kind of extreme communism.

With people literally dying from economic ruin from the disastrous policies the governments implemented, yeah, the US leaders have a duty to their people, first. They need to fix the problems they caused and save American lives.

Almost all of that money will go back into the economy in the next 2-4 weeks. If you give the money to other countries or to businesses, that money will not work its way back into the economy for months or ever. It's pretty simple stuff when a majority of Americans live paycheck to paycheck. We're not Germans or Japanese: we don't save money.

Maybe if democrats hadn't put in a bunch of extra nonsense into the bill that had absolutely nothing to do with helping those harmed by the lockdowns then republicans would have agreed to the original $2000 or whatever amount it was.
