A new season approaches and with that, a new tourney!

In preparation, I've made a thread in which your suggestions can be added here on what it could be.

Which characters? From where? How many? Merged? Randomized? Prep? No Prep? etc.

Make it creative, make it fun and make it as new as you can!

I have two suggestions.

1. Pure bricks. No energy blasts, no TP, nothing fancy. Just h2h, brawling.

2. 1v X, where X is the number of remaining participants. We draft to see who gets to be the '1', then that 1 gets assigned a character from a pool of 'Teambusters', drawn across the tiers (your Doomsdays, Dooms, Sinisters, Hulks, Desperos etc).

Then the remaining participants get assigned a character drawn from the tier below - so if Damborg (as an example) gets Sinister, a Low Herald, we get the High Meta pool.

We'd need to make a list of team-busters [let's say we cap it to high herald]. And we need to differentiate between "people who have fought teams" and "people who fight teams".

As in, Superboy has fought against the Teen Titans, but he shouldn't really be classified as a 'team busters' since that's not really what he does usually.

Magneto on the other hand always fights teams, essentially. As does essentially any X-Men villain, Avengers villain, JLA villain etc. Black Adam would also fit.

To make it more interesting purely independent. No characters from DC or Marvel.

Depends on picks 1 only if mid herald 1 low herald plus one high meta or 3 high metas

Players choice entirely

Randomized?
Given this already makes it harder to use a character you can find out about quickly not randomised.

Actually rethinking we could make it enhanced human to low meta same breakdown.

That would give you your guys like the Shadow, Grendal, Dr McNinja, Judge Dredd up to guys like Lancelot Strong, the Fly.

Depending on what we choose, we can go with 1 direct pick and 1 randomized.

I don’t really care what we do. Choosing independents would... not be awesome though I don’t think. It would require either too much research for most or purely relying on respect threads which would suck. Also the judges wouldn’t really know what’s going on with most characters. Using lesser known characters in tourneys rarely works for just those reasons. I’ve always enjoyed the point system tourneys. Streets worth 1 metas 3 heralds 5 or something similar (can break the tiers down further obviously). Allows loads of creativity and tons risk reward scenarios. Also doesn’t matter if people take the same characters since the composite character would still be different.

Of course drafts are fun. Brick v brick is interesting but feels.... limited?

Like I said I don’t much care about the format though.

Should we trim down some of the tiers? Or just flat out make a list of chatacters that we randomize. Some in the higher tiers (mid/low herald) aren't exactly worth 2/3 of the lower ones, imo.

I’m fine either way. If someone makes a poor choice then they’d be punished for it anyway so in that sense do the tiers sort of police themselves? The value of the tiers would obviously need working out still. And the points was purely a suggestion. Maybe someone will think of something better?

The team buster idea could work maybe but like you said it would mean designating team busters. The other problem I see is how many from the lower tier would be chosen? Then there is the issue of how characters are after nerfed when they are placed in team situations. Think ss on defenders or.... any league member. So using every character at full capacity without cis is hugely different from what we see in books. You may need to take a team buster from two levels up or higher.

Lol. After saying I don’t care it seems like I’m shouting down ideas. I’d do whatever. Just pointing out possible problems I see is all.

My suggestion in the 1 mid vs 2 low or 3 high meta: I think each should pick a mid herald. The opponent has the option of choosing either 1 low herald and the other randomized or 1 high meta and the other 2 randomized.

All of the picks to be blind to the opponent of course. Otherwise the one who picks last makes it tailored to the opponent.

Make the teambuster a 1-post tourney where each poster drafts a few characters from a lower tier and gets one shot to prove their strategy.

Meanwhile, Phil (or whoever is OP) gets 1 post to explain why none of these teams can beat the teambuster.
