In that situation given the Negative Zone portal was open which did screw with Sentry's powers. He wasn't at a 100% optimum level. Even though the zone being in the comic would lead to a reasonable assumption it would be impacting him I contacted Kevin Greivoux about 5 years ago now on twitter and he said as such.

Greivoux had said that his actual power level wasn't affected but his powers were. So anything after that is my guess but I'd say Greivoux is implying more of a disorientation or inability to fight like one normally would. But as I say thats just my guess.

Sentry being affected in that way probably lead to him being more susceptible to a suckerpunch.

As if OAS knows Sentry, pfft.

There’s been instances that would dispute that. I don’t really know how much oxygen you get at the bottom of the ocean I never researched that stuff.

But he was part of the JL team that fought Imperiex in space in Our Worlds at War and he’s also survived in a dimension without air or water called the Otherness. (though it was temporarily) So I’d argue there’s instances that suggest he either doesn’t need oxygen or his reserves of air is hella high.
