This is how I feel on it. After you read the Fermi paradox and consider the great filter, intelligent alien life seems much less likely.

While I think it's a near certainty that there is most likely other life in the universe somewhere, I think it's also extremely unlikely that we'll ever see them or meet them or even know of their existence.

So probably testing advanced secret aircrafts or something.
