J’onn has used telepathy on machines before. Breaking Magedonn’s defenses, The Wologog, Etc
It’s just not his forte but he’s shown capable of doing it.

J'onn didn't break Mageddon's defenses (He reached out to Superman). He was unable to break even a simple spore controlling Lex. He didn't overcome Worloggog either.
