Anyway, laughing at morons aside, the YouTube algorithm thing is definitely true to some degree. I became considerably more right wing after getting into Jordan Peterson stuff on YouTube, and the algorithm then suggested further and further right-wing reactionaries to sate my growing discontent. I was severely repressing my female trans identity and general queerness and so to push it down further I made myself believe that traditionalism and reactionary ideals were the way to go. The algorithm was more than happy to provide a pathway to this dark thinking.
It was only when I embraced my true identity that I realised that I was everything these people hate and want to destroy, so that shocked me back into the left-aligned person I actually am. That said I obviously don't align with the left 'at large' because there's still a deep hatred of trans people in mainstream leftism, centrism and liberalism.
