I know what waifus and husbandos are, but I didn't realize there were real communities around it.
That said, I've got zero problems with it. It's not hurting anyone, and seems to offer some emotional fulfillment for them.
In all honesty, we aren't that far off from being able to actually "date" your fictional crushes anyway. Things like VR gaming/technology and companion robots exist. They will only get better and better as we moved forward. At some point, there will be no difference between a "real" relationship and a simulated one.
