Stronger Decade For Film?

If you had to choose the better decade for movies, what would it be? Looking at IMDB'S top 100 only, here are the films that made the list on both sides:

Just going by what I like, the 90s were the better/stronger decade.

Right off, the 00s lose points for having The Dark Knight. And, counting LOR as one, that 00s list only has 4 movies on it that I really like as opposed to about 20 on the 90s list.

Yeah, I'd agree. I love all the 90's films, for the exception of Silence of the Lambs. I liked SOTL, but I wouldn't put it in my top 100.

70s best era of films hands down

Where is Batman Begins? TDK would not exist without it and in some regards I still like Begins better.

The 90s wins there by a long mile, regardless.

Most of that 00's list is overrated by a large degree.

All way overhyped.

The Dark Knight simply would not get the plaudits it does if Ledger was still alive.

I agree with you on City of God. Why is it so damn high on IMDB ratings? Its a solid film, but nothing special, IMO.

I really liked Pianist, Oldboy, and Requiem. Especially Requiem.

Still, nothing compared to most of the 90's flicks.

I just chose from the top 100, BTW.

Pretty much all of Kevin Smith's flicks that were great were in the 90's, Same with Jackie Chan flicks, too.

Didn't add Jurassic Park, Heat, LA Confidential, or even Casino.

Both smoke the Disney suck off decade of the 2010's. Personally I go with the 90's by a good margin.

90's is an easy one for me.

But these are ****ign great from the 00s:

LOR Trilogy
Gladiator
The Pianist
The Departed
WALL-E

No Country for Old Men, Children of Men, and There Will Be Blood are instant misses that somehow aren't on their 2000's list.

And I'm sorry, The Departed is a solid flick, but it pales in comparison to Scorcese's other heavy hitters, and he even directed a better flick from the 2000's (Gangs of New York).

My personal favorites of the 2000's flicks besides the aforementioned Prestige (probably Nolan's best movie), Inglorious Basterds, Gladiator, TDK, Wall-E, and LOTR trilogy wouldn't ever make IMDB's list (The Passion of The Christ, Apocalypto, Watchmen, 300, Sin City, Spider-Man 2, Unbreakable, American Psycho, Training Day, Black Hawn Down, Pirates of the Caribbean, Casino Royale). I know it's "IMDB's Top 100", but my personal picks are less likely to all-time filmmaking classics when you compare my 2000's list to my 90's one.

90's wins this list even though LOTR are my favorite movies out of everything in both lists sans maybe The Matrix. There are too many films on the 90's that could be considered the best in their genre ever to put IMDB's 2000's list down.

At this stage though in life, I think the 2010's surpassed them in terms of pure quality of films output.

Children of Men is seriously underrated.

I like the 2010s more than 00s, but not the 90s. Super-hero flicks give the 2010s an edge, but other than that, dramas, comedies, action all go to 90s.

I love those movies as well, but was a bit too young to enjoy them when they came out. Wonder if that's a factor.
