Is the US "free press" really free?

You have Fox and Newsmax and The Washington Times parroting Republican talking points while ripping into Democrats, and CNN and MSNBC and The Washington Post vilifying Republicans while lionizing Democrats and their talking points.

So both sides are perfectly aligned in hating one side and loving the other? All the time? That seems strange to me.

I realize they're both a business at heart, and need to sell advertisers on an audience, but what about journalistic integrity? Shouldn't we see a lot less lockstep behavior, and more of an adversarial jousting match? If not times when the press is butting heads with the entire system over something, as a free thinking press SHOULD?

I mean, they aren't supposed to be mouthpieces or attack dogs, and that's kind of how they appear.

US news isn't really news. Its opinion journalism. Mostly gutter trash tabloid stuff at that. There should be some kind of separation of actual news and opinion "news". Alas it will never happen because any attempt to legislate impartiality impinges on the first ammendment.

Well in Britain we have right wing media too. We also have left wing media. The thing is, they aren’t hostile to each other like American media.

What another weird bait thread from CDTM.
