The hell is Kingpin doing currently that makes this a fair fight. Doesn’t he typically struggle with Spiderman and Daredevil while King Shark typically matches Superboy and Aquaman in strength if not at times have exceeded them.

Read the threads he makes. General rule of thumb is DC character(s) win, because it's typically one sided matchups.

He is currently in a tournament to rule the animal kingdom - so King Shark is fighting King Cockroach, Princess Peregrine, Queen Tiger etc etc. It's also hosted by Bwana Beast.

I'm assuming that he's more of a match for Attuma than he would be for Kingpin.
