But it really depends. A court may well find Rosenbaum reasonably defended himself, and reasonably thought Kyle was an active shooter he was performing a duty to nullify.
Both might be in the right, depending on circumstances.
If they were using melee weapons, sure... But with guns, you can absolutely fire whole backing away. Momentum of the person doesn't matter at all with ranged weapons. That doesn't determine defense versus offense.

Had Rittenhouse been brandishing his weapon and threatening people then Rosenbaum would have had a case for self defense. But, as far as I'm aware, that was not the case.

If a cut and dry confrontation, perhaps.
Rosenbaum sat in ambush though. He could have easily avoided Rittenhouse all together. There was no reason to make it a fight or flight scenerio.

Pretty much agree with this.
I know some people do react in anger even if they see someone with a knife or gun. I absolutely can't understand such a reaction.
Fear should trump anger any day, imo.
