On a serious note: What happens when these microbes with the ability to break down plastics in the oceans and in dumps start spreading outside of the oceans and dumps.
Considering how quickly they go through generations, their ability to break down plastics could increase ten-fold or greater in comparatively fast rate of time with beneficial mutations.
