the art is phenomenal. Did you ever read where Alan Moore said it was like a badly written version of Watchman? Top trolling from Moore!

Hasn't aged as well as DKR or FTMWHE imo.Great seeing Orion become his father though.

You could actually make a debate on who has better storylines between Thor and Superman, Kal certainly has a plethora of stinkersBut if we rate peaks I just fail to see how any Thor comicbook sizes up to All-Star Superman

honestly thor has much much better stories
I don't think superman has anything come close to god of thunder or fear itself since n52
side characters wise, thor has a much better supporting cat as well
on villain side you have gorr, hela, serpent, surtur etc
on the good side you have jane, odin, volstagg etc
superman has the worst supporting cast, nobody cares about eradicator or bizarro or parasite or toyman

The two best Superman stories are "Peace on Earth" and "Grounded".
Superman is at his best, when he tries and fails.
Superman isn't a bad and boring hero, because he has too many powers on a too high of a level. He is a bad and boring hero, because the only times he faces adversity is when someone sticks a Kryptonite dildo up his butt. That's not relatable. I want to see Superman fail, so I can root for him to still keep trying and hopefully win the next time around. But that's not how most writers write Superman. When you read most Superman stories, you know he's gonna win, because he is Saitamaman. He HAS to win - "for humanity's sake".

Saying something along the lines of Superhero comics depress him but it's his own fault. Wish I could find it, it's clear early trolling.

Superman: birthright was amazing. It made me appreciate supes and garnered more interest in his character.
Thor 341-343 (Simonson) is a hidden gem. Thor Ragnarok from the dissambled era was epic. Jms run on thor was great as well.
Superman is the more studied and respected character between the two. He's got more to choose from.

Some of these arguments I can see affecting below average writers from making good Superman stories, if they buy into the notions that you present they will fall into pits and errors. "This is a comicbook, it can't be good if the good guys win" is ultimately a piss poor generalisation and a top down nonsensical way to analize a story, it's not about the end, it's about the journey.
But that's also not a good criterea to dismiss Superman stories as if you analize some of the best Superman tales we are discussing such as Red Son or For the man who has everything you will realize Superman actually is defeated in them for the most part.
Edgy thinking like this misses on the fact some characters can be just fun to write. Actually the charm of Thor's is that he's fun

Great post.
Stilt will seize on that word, though.

Tommy Monaghan being a perfect example of a fun character.
He's relateable, flawed, far from invincible. But most importantly Garth Ennis seemed to genuinely enjoy writing his journey.
Keith Giffen is fondly remembered as the guy who wrote humorous or outlandish stories. G'nort, Kilowog, and Martian Manhunter go out for a night on the town, and cause a reformed Black Hand to have a relapse. Vril Dox and Lobo fake an election and reform a government over night.
From LOSH Five Years Later to Thanos, everything Giffen did was gold.
And you can say the same about Morrison with Superman. All Star Superman was a love letter from a fan, to the fans.
