Pretty much any noteworthy speedster could just snatch the gems off his chest at the onset.
The rules are inconsistent though, so who knows. Tony could steal the gems from Thanos mid fight but apparently that wasn’t an option when Thanos was asleep during the fight on Titan.

That random slave who grabbed the power stone held onto it for a few seconds before she went kablooey. So a noteworthy speedster, who can perceive by the millisecond or w/e, should be able to register that the power gem is burning the f*ck out of them, then just throw it away from the field before it significantly damages them.
