Mass shooting at elementary school in Texas

In the years when we had an assault weapons ban, mass shootings decreased 43%. In the years since it expired, they have gone up 243%. So clearly, laws work.

You mean only 43% and not 100%?

Weird.

I guess people were still using other weapons.

You know, cuz bullets.

Police Admit "Wrong Decisions" in TX Mass Shooting

Texas Department Public Safety spokesman Lieutenant Christopher Olivarez confirmed to a reporter that police officers went into Robb Elementary School to get their own children during the massacre.

A clip of a live interview with Olivarez from Tuesday has gone viral, amid outrage over reports that frantic families, who complained about the one-hour of police inaction during the massacre, were held back by police.

"Right. So what we do know, Vanessa, right now, that there was some police officers, families trying to get their children out of school, because it was a active shooter situation right now. It's a terrible situation right now. It's just a terrible, it's a terrible tragedy of another took place."

Panicked children and teachers placed half-a-dozen calls to 9-1-1 from the Texas classrooms where a massacre was unfolding, pleading for police to intervene, while roughly 20 officers waited in a hallway for nearly an hour before entering the room, authorities said on Friday.

At least two children called the 9-1-1 from the two connecting classrooms after 18-year-old Salvador Ramos entered with an AR-15 semi-automatic rifle, according to Colonel Steven McCraw, director of the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Police admitted to a stunning string of failures, including driving right by the gunman.

Ramos is believed to have entered the school through a door that had been left propped open by a teacher. He went on to fire more than 100 rounds. Over the next 78 minutes, more than half-a-dozen harrowing 9-1-1 calls were made, at least two of them from students, describing unfolding carnage inside classrooms, and begging for the police to intervene.

As many as 19 police officers were in a hallway inside the school shortly after noon, but Mr. McCraw said they made "no effort" to breach the classroom door, because officers "could've been shot."

Asked what he would say to parents, Mr. McCraw's response was a mix of defiance and resignation: "What do I say to the parents," he asked. "I don't have anything to say to the parents, other than what happened."

The Uvalde Police Department recently bragged about its SWAT team on social media, and their active shooter drills in public schools. However, when it mattered, they waited in the hallway while a shooter murdered children in a classroom, because they were too cowardly to apply their training outside of LARPing and photo ops.

This is an argument for more gun restrictions, not less.

It is tacitly acknowledging that a ban on assault weapons alone is only sufficient to decrease the death rate by 43% and that we need additional restrictions to get it to 100%.

Congratulations on defeating your own argument.

Pontificating as always.

21 innocent humans are dead because of bullets.

The nomenclatures are irrelevant.

Still, less would have died had not the police stood outside with their collective thumbs up their asses.

The reason the police stood outside instead of intervening was because the shooter was armed with an assault weapon.

Armed police who were on the scene when the shooter arrived *fled* because they were out gunned. This shooting is a perfect illustration of how the nature of the firearm can have an impact, this situation would not have been the same if the shooter had been armed with only a hand gun.

Is that a joke?

Usually the police just hang-out and let “1” person gun down children with an AK because there’s no chance what so ever. God forbid anyone has courage. I’m so disgusted

I’m a combat veteran (Infantry) and I own several firearms including a Ruger AR 5.56 rifle. I fully support my Second Amendment.

However, I’m 100% on board for stricter laws, gun purchasing policies, and background checks.

The problem isn’t guns. It’s people. Period.

Even if “assault” rifles were completely banned and made illegal to own, a non “assault” rifle or pistol can deal the same damage.

All bullets speak the same language.

Id allow you to Keep a shot gun at home to protect your home, but id have massive checks to even get that.

As for the rest, seriously screw your 2nd amendment rights. Those rights are not worth dead school children.

So you'd argue that because the solution is not perfect it shouldn't be done at all even though ir works to lower the number of mass shootings?

Correct me if im wrong, but if you went mad and went on a killing spree with your shot gun, that you could probably be tackled by even unarmed civilians ?

would depend my one in the uk is over under and has only two shots. My one here is side by side and again has two cartridges before reload. If someone was brave enough, whilst the gun is broken for reload it's possible. However, if I had a pump action (allowed in uk) with a large feed, also not allowed in the uk but the feed would be easy to bring in unloaded, if I was using that, no way. At close range in a confined space like a class room, a pump action shot gut would be very, very destructive. I am very good at clay pigeon shooting.

lives could have been saved it the police did their job, but my money is on the police not wanting to get involved because of their own poor marksmen killing kids as well. they'd rather sit there and allow every child to be murdered than face 2 or 3 lawsuits from stray bullet casualties.

the police reminded me of the kingsguard in asoiaf with that cowardly display. it was the ultimate dereliction of duty. I don't think this would have happened outside of "all hat and no cowboy" land usa.

Yes, when US police have no legal obligation to protect citizens from harm and can rely on copaganda to absolve them of all responsibility they will often act cowardly and craven in these situations.

Arm the shooter with an assault weapon designed to kill quickly and fend off group attackers and we shouldn’t be too surprised when the shooter is able to act unopposed.

Short of abolishing the police and replacing them with a system that actually functions, taking assault weapons out of the equation is a no brainer.

👆

Copaganda = word of the week.

Yeah, whilst I generally distrust law enforcement, they are the only ones who should have easy access to tactical weapons, they should be better trained and better equipped.

FDNY walked into the WTC on 9/11 knowing that it could collapse and kill them, and it did.

Probably why you never hear a song called “F*ck the fire department!”

👆 So true, but in the UK many fire men have tep jobs because we have so few fires. I have a mate who was a fire man four years and a plumber too. He never put a single fire out, earned 2 salaries and used the fire station for playing pool and working out. In the end he got caught with coke by the Police and sacked. **** the Police!

This shows the difference between them in stark contrast.

Also, I can't think of one offensive name for the fire service... I can think of loads for the filth.
