Sorry that happened. Do you know what circumstances led to the theft? Was it an act of desperation or opportunism?

thing is I actually pay him well over the going rate for his role. His wife was ilk a while back, I paid her hospital bills.
In that case that is really sad. He must have been desperate to betray your trust like that, or he's a complete sociopath. I know you must perform due diligence in terms of job termination, but, if possible and only if your intrigued/emotionally invested enough to do so, try to find out exactly what caused this betrayal and why he didn't trust you enough to ask for an advance or loan.

Sucks he put you in this position. Also sounds like if he needed 500.00 for a good reason, you would have given it to him.Did he tell you why?

From my bedroom, from a lockable draw, he obviosly had gone through my desk found the key and opened it, he was the only one in the house, the wife and kids wwre at her sisters and he didnt expect me to come back from interviewing before he was gone. Little things had gone missing before. I was leaving the Country and he told my driver a week before hand that he was worried he would get the blame for stealing something. He'd clearly been tracking that draw for years, I tried to hide it was where the house cash stash was from staff.
Stole how?
