San Antonio Police chief says charges coming for officer who shot 17-year-old at McDonald’s parking lot

The police shooting of an unarmed 17-year-old eating in his car at a McDonald’s parking lot last week was “not justified” and authorities expect to file criminal charges against the officer by the end of the week, San Antonio Police Chief William McManus said Tuesday.

“The video was horrific,” the chief told CNN’s Brianna Keilar. “There is no question in anybody’s mind looking at that video that the shooting is not justified.”

McManus said he recognized an issue immediately upon arriving to the scene of the October 2 shooting, based on the location of the bullet holes. -snip

It's a good thing the cameras were on.

Re: San Antonio police shoot 17yo armed with a hamburger

I saw the same video you did.

What he was holding isn't the issue, the driver behavior is. It looked to me like the driver was making a sudden movement.

Officers tell people to put their hands where they can see them for a reason, that reason being they won't risk you pulling a gun on them.

Doesn't matter if it's a phone or wallet or burger, there are people who DO pull guns on cops; and they have no way to tell who's who, which is why you follow instructions.

The San Antonio Police Chief disagrees with your laymen's assessment of the situation. The 17yo driver is the victim here, not the police officer who tried to murder him.

Could end up being murder, as the kid is still in critical care.

That might be your experience with policemen, but it's important for you to realize that a person of color does not have the same experience with police with you do at all. They do not have a history of following directions saving them from violence.

I don't remember, you weren't one of the ones saying Ahmed arbery shouldn't have tried to fight the hillbillies chasing him in a truck were you?
.

I don't think cdtm was one of the Trumpers who tried to spin justifications for Arbery's lynching/murder, while inventing fiction that Arbery was fleeing from a crime.

That was DDM, Surt, Ethneo and then later Broly reversed himself and joined in.

Silent Master and Snowdragon were in it to win it too.

iirc, SM in a very rare move didn't act like DDM's personal assistant as he usually did. He largely stayed out of that out.

SnowD, I can't recall. Wouldn't surprise me though

Should have ordered the filet of fish.

This thread title makes me think of this.

It's a sad reflection of our community that there's credit to be given for silence over whether or not the victim of a lynching deserved it...

“Should have followed instructions”, my stuttering ass.

That shooting was unjustified and done by a brainless rookie.

There was no imminent danger to the cop’s life for him to even draw his weapon.

I hope the ex-cop goes to prison.

Looked at it a third and fourth time.

Cop never actually told him any instructions except "get out of the car". Never told him to show hands, and the driver was switching his car off.

I still say he could reasonably have been going for a weapon, but the cop didn't manage the situation.

So yeah, this is entirely his fault.

Aye.

Why was Arbery running, bro? Why didn't Arbery listen to simple commands, bro?
Arbery was no saint, bro.

Took you four times to come to that conclusion. Guess late is better than never. Kudos.

Wrong is wrong, denying it just makes it worse. 🙂

I admit I do have a bias towards law enforcement, if only because most ignore the reasons they act as they do.

Those reasons being the fact we live in a society that likes to argue and refuses to listen, which just makes it impossible to tell who's about to flip out on you. It's an unfair standard that nobody on earth can get right 100% of the time.

And while they chose a job puts them in danger, they won't want to get shot any more then we do. But they roll the dice far more often, and all those cop killings that get reported hit them harder then us.

I know I sure couldn't do their job.
