Well then you'd be trolling a poster you have no reason to engage with but for your own ego.
It wouldn't be for my ego, it would be to mess with them. Because if you block me, and then make an argument I can respond to it and it will guarantee two things:

I'll don't have to worry about having to waste my time on a back-and-forth, and

I'll get the last word.
That would be against forum rules. Not that such a notion has ever been really enforced but it's more an indictment of you then the other poster.
I'd interact with the poster as I would normally, refuting their argument.
But I'd make it short and easy to respond to (because I don't have to worry about a response), and likely include a few scans and references just to make it a bit more painful.
Don't blame me for having fun with the carte blanche you handed me when you put me on your ignore list.

At least, that's how I've been repeatedly lectured over it. And it makes sense. Are you begging for attention or not?
I have enough self-control to ignore posts without the ignore function. And even I tend to at least take a gander at a post before I ignore it.
But even if you do use it, why announce it? Because if you ever decide to respond to their posts they can point out, "I thought you said you put me on your block list?"
