the context New52 Superman(a split version of Superman mind you) beat the piss out of Apollo.

Apollo was pissed off and amped the the Kryptonian criminals Zod and Faora with a sun dip and they beat Superman unconscious and the dropped his unconscious body in a reactor core and set it off.

Nukes haven’t meant anything to Superman outside of Dark Knight Returns or another alternate universe in comics probably as long as I’ve been alive.

So he fought a skyfather, then had to be beaten nearly to death by sun amped Kryptonians and then dropped in a reactor core is why he looks worse for wear there.

The story literally told you in bubbles in the beginning that he was up at night worried about not being strong enough to save the day.

Darkseid shows up and says he did it with ALE.

Superman is feeling that he’s not strong enough to save the day. The exact scenario ALE was causing him to believe.

You are right in the sense that he should just absorb a Nuke just fine though. Fusion and fission and gamma and light and explosions is exactly what the sun is. But they won’t let that get in the way of a story. Just like surfer shouldn’t get pulled into fisticuffs and punched unconscious all the time.

So I’ll give you that a little bit.
But, Supes can and does absorb those energies also.. He can even choose to shoot gamma rays if he wants.
So it’s really both ways.

But under normal circumstances a nuke just doesn’t do anything to him. At all.
Remember in the Fernus arc in JLA when Flash evacuated the city?
Superman was at ground zero because he flew in to catch that rocket. He was inches from it.
It was the last of hundreds as Fernus shot off most of the global supply save some that Flash was able to go warn to shut their systems down.
Didn’t even phase him.
after the explosion he just flew away to regroup the league to refocus on Fernus.

And that nuclear explosion with Neutron while Superman was literally in kryptonite, which actually does poison him, and he shrugged it off.

No it's not because by the time sunlight escapes the sun the gamma is lost, very little is left. Most of it is part of the nuclear fusion.

Again, you don't see Superman absorbing nukes whenever they go off, he doesn't get supercharged by them, not in older or newer showings, he doesn't go around absorbing stuff.
