I get it. Writers going to write. Surfer could dispatch the Thing and countless other characters of the same ilk easily though if he used the extent of his powers. Have to let that story progress though.

I should think that Gladiator's first fight with Colossus and Silver Surfer's first fight with Thing hardly have anything to do with their travelling speed feats?

No seriously, physically sure. I'd go with Gladiator everytime, but I have a hard time believing a character with Surfers versatility and options would get beat by him.
