3 Body Problem (Netflix)

So did Dave Chappelle use the books as inspiration for his "Space Jews" joke?

It follows the same beats, just swap the asian girl and the zealots in his narrative contacting aliens and everything going really wrong lol.

Biggest criticism is valid in that the characters are not great. What's funny is they're still an improvement from the books where the characters are only a vehicle for the hard sci-fi plot and are even more 1 dimensional.

Yeah, three in and I don't really care about any of them, especially that Auggie woman.

Wong from the MCU is the most interesting so far.

The virtual worlds are nutty enough to be funny.

So the aliens are lying about not understanding deception right?

Because how is it they understand everything else? Like Retribution for conquest?

You're telling me in all their history no one thought to scheme?

The Cixin Liu books are fascinating. Quinn's Ideas Youtube channel also does an excellent series of videos on them. Very much worth watching.

So after having watched the season, did the books have a minor researcher who was ok with the aliens taking over?

Were all the characters there but gender/racial swapped, or did the show actually invent characters just to representing?

Yes

No but some were. Almost everyone in the books is Chinese as you would expect from a Chinese author.

To answer one of your other questions. The aliens in the book don't understand lies and deception because their thoughts are all open to one another so they can't lie.

Ah, makes sense.

I accidentally spoiled myself by checking around reddit and discovering

Spoiler:
the aliens were actually being deceptive about the countdown and some.other things, never got the details but the takeaway was they could technically lie to lessers who lack telepathy, but Red Riding Hood was beyond them because as you say they would never deal with liars, as they read each others mind and would see right through it, and thus they had no concept of deception based cultures

I probably won't read the books and wait on the Netflix seasons, am already knee deep in another series "The Culture" (Would love to see how the Idirons, Shapers, or Culture would deal with the Trisolarans video game.)

The loyalty oath was dumb.

How did they expect to enforce such a contract?

You serious?

Thee didn't. Wade expected he wouldn't sign it. The point was to show the aliens that he wasn't completely loyal to humanity.

As someone who doesn't have much time to invest in TV shows, is this worth the investment?

I do love sci-fi..

Ah.

I mean yeah makes sense, I guess. I just figured he made lemonade out of lemons with that.

It's only ok tbh, the story is great, acting is fantastic, and...

That's all I can say without risking a ban.

You know what you'd like it and wouldn't see the flaws I do because we are very different people. 😀

It's a slow start 1st season but it will eventually be very hard sci-fi like Foundation.

It's flawed. As I said earlier the characters are not great because they were poor in the books as they are really just to give context to the story.

Definitely has some extremely unique moments.

I don't know, I thought the chinese woman was great, the left wing nutjob was interesting, the Game of Thrones guy was likeable, most of the characters weren't deep but still interesting.. maybe that's because I was binging on Ben 10, characters are not that shows strong point.

Haven't seen foundations but have read the books, and heard they seriously ruined Salvor Hardin.

A fellow sci-fi fan friend from work recommended this, so that helps me make my decision. I'll probably try to get around to it at some point.

is there any nudity in this ? otherwise i prolly won't watch

You see like 5-7 Asian dicks.

Gay asian!

As if, everyone knows all asians are into cartoon furries.

Watched the first 3 episodes of this today.

Ugh, so woke... Asian people, Indian people, white people, a token black guy...

Only people who should be scientists are red-blooded Americans.

But in all seriousness, Jack Rooney, why is he rich and famous?

Women scientists, now a gay character... TOO FUCXING WOKE!!

Finished episode 4 and it's getting a bit more intriguing. I'm curious about this alien-worshipping cult...

Enjoying this so far (with some significant suspension of disbelief, of course).

But that CG monkey looked atrocious. Why not use a real monkey at least for a few shots?

One more episode left...
