Borderlands (2024)

I know nothing about the source material, so hopefully someone can comment on that.

Looks like trash, but hopefully fun trash.

I generally think Eli Roth sucks, so hoping this is better than his horror films...

IIRC the game was well received, but this looks like dirty ass with corn.

James Gunn has more talent in his pinky toe than Eli Roth could ever dream of.

This is a weird lineup. You've got Lilith, Claptrap, Krieg, Tiny Tina, Roland, and Dr. Tannis. Tina and Tannis are NPC's who only show up periodically and don't actually go on adventures with the main group in any of the games. Krieg doesn't show up until Borderlands 2. And Brick and Mordecai are nowhere to be found, even though they round out the original 4 characters(Lilith(Siren), Roland(Soldier), Mordecai(Hunter), Brick(Berserker)). I hope Lilith at least uses her Siren powers.

No idea why Kevin Hart is Roland either, he easily could've been played by Idris Elba or Daniel Kaluya or pretty much any black actor with a goatee who is taller than Kevin Hart and not all about jokes since even when Roland wasn't super serious in Borderlands 1, he wasn't the comic relief.

Yeah, even not knowing any of that the casting looks pretty terrible.

I confess I did laugh at the last thing in the trailer, though, with the robot shitting metal or whatever. That was actually a little funny.

Claptrap is the comic relief, so casting Jack Black seems to be one of the best choices in the film. I just hope they can keep up with his comedic stylings since a lot of Claptrap's schtick is his own self superiority to basically anything and anybody else around him even when he's getting shat on, and the fact that he doesn't care about anyone and will even joke about his own comrades getting murdered since in the game at least, they actually respawn as part of the in-game lore.

Yeah, Jack Black is a great voice actor. He's probably never bad casting.

What gets me is, if this movie is based on the first game where is Brick & Mordecai?..Tiny Tina & Krieg don't show up until the 2nd game.

All I know game-wise is I recognized the name.

It really does look like hot garbage.

I'm just hoping it'll be entertainingly bad.

At least the games still exist for those that play them, Just fire them up again to wash away the garbage of this film.

That is a shockingly talented cast, for such a shitty looking movie.

I'm kind of a surprised Cate Blanchett agreed to do it and to work with Eli Roth in general.
