Just your standard action movie that uses the name of a popular book series to justify all the action and some of its plot elements. Matthew and Idris didn't do too bad though.

Rob, you got Gabe and Mike mixed up. Gabriel is Kevin Durand's character, who shows up in the diner as an Archangel with metal wings to kill the baby. Paul Bettany is Michael who lost his powers by chopping off his wings. He gets them back after dying to save the baby and God reinstated him since he was the only angel who did the right thing. But either one of them would walk all over Flagg.

Michael dies and gets brought back as a full Archangel after his sacrifice. Gabriel shows up and already is an Archangel as the big bad. He kills Michael in the first place.

At the end of the film does Michael not come back as an Archangel because he gave God what he needed, as opposed to Gabe who gave him what he wanted?

Because Gabriel is the antagonistic Archangel who is trying to kill the child. Michael is the protagonistic Archangel who cuts off his wings, gets killed by Gabriel, and then is resurrected by God because he was the only one who passed the test. Michael comes back to Earth with God's might behind him. Gabriel leaves in shame.

Michael is not in this thread whatsoever. Only Gabriel, the bad Angel is.

He is correct in that is what Michael does, but they're talking about Gabriel so they got the wrong angel.

Lol no worries. It happens. But yes, Gabriel was still alive, healthy, and an Archangel when he left. He was just shamed for his actions. So he would 100% dog walk Flagg.
