Alien: Romulus

Seeing this tomorrow. Will post my thoughts when I get back

Cool.

Watching the trailers now after seeing the movie and they kick a lot of ass.

All the facehugger stuff is fantastic. There are some great sequences with them in the full film. I actually find them more interesting and terrifying than the xenomorph, tbh.

I can’t decide if I want to see this. The reviews vary so much, I’ve seen people saying it’s boring and uninspired and others say it’s better than Aliens. I assume it’s somewhere between those two extremes, obviously.

Better than Aliens is probably a bit extreme, but it's inventive and imaginative in its own way.

Go see and make up your own mind.

I was reading today Fede Álvarez has an idea for a AvP movie.

I kinda liked it.

The first half of the movie is indeed boring as phuck.

The second half has some cool scenes and intense moments.

Not sure how I felt about the New Human/Xeno hybrid....

The best Alien film after Aliens for me

I don't think that's an accurate description of what it is.

Spoiler:
I think it's more Engineer/human, and less xeno. Remember she was previously pregnant and then injected the compound Black Goo or whatever, but I don't think she was infected by a Facehugger. My friend tells me there may be some lore regarding the Engineers procreation methods that it may link to,
but I'm going to have to find out more.

Other than a couple minor gripes I kind of love it, too. I'm anxious to see how my minor gripes play on repeat viewings as well as that third act. I suspect they may bother me less and less.

Such a kickass setting and that's extremely important in these films, just like Prey understood the proper setting for a Predator movie.

3rd best film of the franchise for sure. Found this to be a breath of fresh air for the franchise. Though still a fun SciFi horror even on it's own.

I loved the worn-in look of the ships and how the tech mimicked Alien and Aliens. Lots of other shoutouts to the previous films, most worked, some didn't.

The new

Spoiler:
hybrid looked a combo of human, Xeno and Engineer DNA all mixed and evolved. Which fits with established lore, as the proto Xeno was born from a black goo semen human embryo squid thing face-raping an Engineer and laying an egg, and what Rook said.

You are right it.

It did remind me of an engineer.

Not bad, not great. The world building and lore definitely benefited from being out of Ridley Scott’s hands, he clearly has nothing relevant to say anymore, within the alien universe. My biggest gripe with this was all of the main characters were all completely idiotic and unlikeable. I was legit cheering for the Xeno to kill them all the entire time. Tbh, I’m a lot more excited for future installments now, there’s a lot of interesting new directions they can go in future movies.

I agree with Khaz. My initial reaction to the first trailer stands. Pretty decent despite the trash cast. Apart from the synthetic they were all just the same 1 dimensional plank of wood.
The plot was pretty solid so between that and the aesthetic they carried the movie.
The hybrid looked like something out of the tv series "The Strain". Basically some super strigoi looking thing. It was probably the only thing that looked terrible.

Overall it's definitely a 3.6 roentgen movie. Not great, not terrible

Time to bring back the Colonial Marines.

Pretty good other than the final act. Wasn't a fan of it. The hybrid's design looks almost exactly like the Orphan of Kos from Bloodborne.

Also Rook looked terrible and was completely unnecessary. They really need to quit with this deep fake shit.

That and the android delivering the unnecessary "b!tch" line are really my only complaints. Otherwise it's freakin' solid as a rock. I don't mind the rest of the callbacks too much.

I'm hoping to see it again this weekend. Stoked to see it again.

I enjoyed it.
Great film and definitely a much needed return to the franchise's roots

Finally saw this. Might be a bit of a hot take but I liked the setup during the first 1/3rd of the film. Brobot Andy is probably the standout amongst the main cast. Though at this point I think the Colonial Marines were lightning in a bottle that's unlikely to ever be replicated.

I'm glad somebody else thought this too.

Using the "b!tch" line from Aliens was cringe, but also kinda funny because Andy was an autistic android and the odd delivery kinda fit.

At least they didn't make autism some evolutionary advantage like in The Predator. Lol
