Irresponsible Speculation for 2025 Star Wars comics
I just want to start this post by fully admitting this is wild, irresponsible speculation about the current mainline Star Wars comic, as of July 16, 2025.
With that out of the way: I wonder if Qi'ra is about to be our new Lumiya figure for Canon?
Hear me out: The Marvel Star Wars comics of the past decade have been more than happy to use characters and concepts taken out of the classic Marvel comics from the 70's and 80's. We've had Valance become a primary character, we've had the Tagge family resume their roles as corporate antagonists, we even got Jaxxon in Canon.
For the current, post-RotJ mainline Star Wars comic, we're seeing what seems to be am adaptation of the Nagai-Tof conflict from the classic comics. Nagai are showing up in the galaxy as refugees running away from something and tensions are rising. The latest issue showed an armored woman execute a Nagai who tried passing information to Han and Lando, and beating up Han when he tried to catch her. She immediately recognized him during the scuffle, referring to him as "General."
The solicitations for the next two issues (out in August and September) have implied we're going to meet the leader of the Nagai rebellion, and it's supposed to be a shocking character. "An assassin unmasked - and it's not who you expect!" "Who is the new leader of the Nagai resistance"
If they continue mirroring the classic comics, Qi'ra would be a natural fit for a Lumiya-esque role. The former lover of one of the main cast (Han instead of Luke) trained by a Sith (Maul instead of Vader) now working for an extra-galactic threat involving the Nagai? It would be a loose adaptation, which is kind of in line with how loose they've been with other Marvel references (Valance never actually bounty hunting Luke, Domina Tagge being a big bad instead of Orman, etc).
Thoughts? Am I way off base here?
