Sheila ,honey,
don't ruin it for youself... go buy the book and read it... it doesn't take long I bought it yesterday afternoon.. read it when i had time.. and finished it about midnight... and believe me... for the time being your happier not knowing who it is....
*sobs*
I loved the book very much, but i felt like I spent most of my time being angry at that DATDA teacher and less time enjoying the book.
also... I've always kind of liked malfoy's character... but he was really a little **** in this book huh?
It was interesting to get a look into Snapes life when he was younger...
kinda have to feel bad for him. It was also cool to see the group interaction w/ james, sirius, lupin(remus), and peter... I love lupin and sirius....*sobs.... wipes eyes...continues typing*
Harry was really really moody in this book, but hey.. he's 15 and that is expected.
Lastly, I loved the character Tonks... she was very original...
who else thinks her and lupin should get together?
wow... sorry so long
~*skittles*~
Review of Book(so far!): I find it is more about politics in the wizarding world than Harrys' adventures. Children under the age of 10 may get bored easily and find the plot confusing. Harry is definetly a teenager in this book, his temper rising easily. Hermione continues to try and help the House Elves without support or sucess. Ron and Hermione become prefects which I find is ridiculous because Hermione and Ron were just as bad (they broke how many rules?!) as Harry and are not doing a better job this year. However it is barely mentioned in the book. Overall the book has not let me down and my faith in J.K. Rowling is higher than ever but I wish she would write faster!!! Watch out J.R.R. Tolkein!!!!!
SPOILERS!!
Hagrid does NOT die!! Well at least not yet 😉 It might be Mr.Weasly (end of chp. 21) but he doesn't yet either.
Here are more spoilers---->>>
Ron is the new Keeper for Griffindor...he's not doin very well.
Harry, Fred, and George get kicked off the team for fighting malfoy.
There is a new position in the Hogwarts staff; High Inquisitor.
This position is held by the new defense against the dark arts teacher, Professer Umbridge, a female.
Harry is sensing what Voldemort is feeling more clearly.
Harry thinks HE attacks Mr.Weasly, even though it is quite impossible.
Cho and Harry are getting cosier and "something" happens when she is crying about Cedric (weird!)
The "order of the phoenix" is a group of non-supporters of voldemort.
Voldemort is looking for a weapon of some sort... 😕
Well I think thats about all of the important things. I will try and tell you more after I finish reading tomorrowSPOILERS!!
spoilers
I can't do the highlight text thing, but I just finished the book- scroll down for spoilers
1.Two divinations teachers- Trelawney and Firenze the centaur.
2. Trelawney made a prediction during her original job interview that said a boy would be born at the end of the seventh month to parents that had defied Voldemort 3 times. He would be marked as the Dark Lord's equal by the dark lord himself, but would have "powers the dark lord knows not." Surprisingly, both Harry and Neville fit this description. Also, both this boy and the dark lord could not live at the same time for long- one would have to kill the other. This was one of her spooky, accurate predictions
3. Trelawney makes a prediction about Harry (a phony one) that DOESN'T involve him dying. (well, it surprised me)
4. Definite signs that Harry is a teenager; he is very volatile and prone to shouting at his friends, and he uses the Cruciatus Curse. (Admittedly, on a Death Eater, but still...)
5. Sirius does die at the hand of Bellatrix Lestrange, his cousin and the one who tortured Neville's parents into insanity.
6. According to a strange fourth year named Luna Lovegood, it MAY be possible for Harry to contact Sirius again...
7. Umbridge, the new DAtDA teacher, is a nasty woman (those who have read the book know this) she gets Dumbledore sacked and becomes headmaster, permanently bans Harry from Quidditch, becomes Headmaster, makes it OK for Filch to whip students, etc. Not surprisingly, all the other teachers hate her. Fortunately, she is attacked by angry centaurs at the end, and all the damage she did is undone. (well, most of it)
8. Fred and George make a rather dramatic exit, raising as much hell as humanly possible then, in front of everyone, teachers included, stealing their brooms back (they were confiscated) with Accio and flying off. They do get to start a joke shop in Diagon Alley, and they are doing very well for themselves.
9. Percy is more of a sniveling sycophant than ever, and even his own family literally hate him.
10. Harry finally hooks up with Cho, but they are separated after a depressingly short time.
11. Hagrid was indeed going to the giants, but no luck- they're going to join Voldemort. The Dementors already have.
12. Hagrid has a half brother- pure giant. (Sixteen feet tall, and he's a runt.) His name is Grawp, and he lives in the Forbidden Forest.
13. Commander Vimes, posing as John Keel, kills Findthee Swing in the burning wreckage of the Cable Street- wait, wrong book, sorry.
14. Back to Harry- the Dursleys' home is apparently so safe even He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named can't get Harry there- some kind of enchantment.
15. Dumbledore finally duels, and he is in fact most impressive. Ok, who am I kidding- he's freakin' AMAZING.
16. This is kind of vague, but the Department of Mysteries at the Ministry is a wacked-out place. Big showdown there.
17. Everyone finally knows about Voldemort's return! Yay!
18. Things of note: Rita Skeeter's cameo, Arabella Figg (old cat lady from Privet Drive) is a Squib, Hagrid brings in Thestrals (creepy winged horses that ae invisible unless you've seen someone die) and it turns out they have been pulling the "Horseless Carriages" all along, Mad-Eye Moody and Remus Lupin return, Harry's Mother's maiden name is Evans.
19. We finally meet James Potter in school, and he's a real twit. Seriously- he used to torture Snape for literally no reason at all. Lily (Harry's mother) didn't really like him much in school either.
That's all I can think of off the top of my head, more on this later.
I liked it. Well, most of it. Grawp seemed to be thread fizzle- not much happened with him. I would expect more. I can't keep typing because its late, but that was my major beef with the book. Also, the battle scene seemed somewhat confusing- too much action and not enough description of where everybody was, what was going on, etc. I should have drawn out a map, but that would be REALLY geeky. Also, I agree about Lupin and Tonks. I was frankly terrified that Hermione was going to bite the dust, and (minor spoiler) I am glad she didn't. Anyway, it was on the whole enjoyable. I will not say worth the wait because nothing was worth that wait, and even if this book caused all of the works of Shakespeare, Mark Twain and Plato to spontaneously combust out of feelings of inferiority and self-loathing it would still not be good enough to merit waiting that long. Damn cliffhangers. If we have to wait three years or two years or however long we waited again i will go nuts. Props to J.K. Rowling for a work well done though.
Also, I was just reading the earlier "predictions"- Harry's postschool career is not decided yet, Lily was neither a Slytherin nor Voldemort's daughter, Harry and Malfoy still hate each other, not everyone in the Order of the Phoenix is an Auror, Harry does not become an Animagus, Harry does not have to die to kill Voldemort, there is no proof that James was ever in the Order of the Phoenix, (well there might have been but I missed that part), neither Dobby nor Hagrid dies, James is not the heir of Gryffindor, (well actually he might be but that is utterly not mentioned in this book, plus he acted so unchivalrously at school that I doubt it.) The Order does fight Voldemort though... 1 out of 10 isn't bad...
Well I'm frankly relieved that it wasn't one of the-people-who-didn't-die-but-everyone-thought-they-were-gonna if you know what I mean. It was close- she knew people were going to know someone was going to die and so she drew out that scene with the intention of making everyone nervous. Well, Luna said Harry would be able to cantact the deceased through the veil, so its a little ok.
Hey i finished the book last night and all i can say is wow. I didnt really think it was darker that the last book but it was a but more complex. I was amazed at what Dumbledore had to say and the death of ----------- made me cry! If you havent finished or even started yet, what are you waiting for! Its worth it!
