If you're talking about the comic, it's not set in the future, it's the same timeline as the mainstream X-Men comics, Generation X is basically a junior team, kind of like the New Mutants were. The Prof wasn't dead, and it was set at an entirely different school, not at Xavier's.

Jubilee is a teenage mutant with light-based powers, and Vertigo is an older mutate (not born with powers, but given them later) who, as her name implies, affects a person's vertigo or balance. And at this point, the Phoenix is no longer an alter ego for Jean, they are a combined creature, basically. Jean is Phoenix, Phoenix is Jean, yet they can manifest seperately. They've been bound together for so long that they will probably be together forever.

But she never truly developed a full body carapace. Meltdown is the comic version of Boom Boom, and Meltdown did originally use that name as her code name. Forge and Cable may look a little similar, but that's where the similarities end. Cable is a telekinetic/telepathic,and was infected by the techno-organic virus, that's why his body is half metal. His tk is constantly holding the spread of the virus in check. Forge lost his leg and hand in Vietnam, during a B-52 bomb run that he ordered. He's a mystic/shaman, and his mutant ability is to be able to see the inner workings of things, and use that knowledge to invent new things. So like I said, they may look similar, but that's where it stops.
