question about avatar...

I would have asked this in another thread but it was closed. i uploaded a avatar when i first got here,you know just playing around now I want to change it. every time i try though I get my same pic that was there in the first time I uploaded a pic.am I missing something or am I stuck with the pic I put up? any advice would be helpful..thanks.
