If you were Lando.....

lets say that you are lando calrissian. vader arrives at cloud city and tells you that you are to participate in a trap that will snare your old friend, han solo. how would you handle it?

depends... lando was thinking about the many (cloud city residents) over the one (han solo). personally he had to do what he did, even though vader lied to him. which is why he helped in the end

yeah, he had to look after his residents first. but when they are walking and talking, maybe he could have dropped a hint or two, so that han could have escaped and vader might not have known he had been tipped off.

he had the bald guy with the thing around his head do the tipping off.

I dont think Vader was that easy to bargin with he usually got it his way, and the bald guy was called Lobot

Yes, Lando's first responsibility was to his people. Yet the problem with the Dark Side was revealed here; Vader had nothing but contempt for Lando and saw no problem in betraying him. This arrogance cost Vader dear.

yes, it did. he messed up when he told lando to take leia and chewie to his ship. i would have had a squad of stormtroopers escort them, not lando.

The point was that Vader thought Landa was too feeble to resist after Vader changed the deal- but Lando did, and broke the heroes out.

yeah, but how many stormtroopers were there, like 4 or 5? landos guards overtake them without a fight. vader is not stupid. if i were him, i would have wanted to keep lando in sight at all times and sent at least 10 stormtroopers with leia and chewie. he had to have known that han and lando were friends, otherwise, why was vader there? i know that you guys are gonna say that boba fett signalled vader as he was following the falcon, but i think that vader knew already. otherwise, how did he get there before the falcon?

if ther were 10 Stormtroopers Lando would have called for a larger amount of Cloud City guards and Vader were too busy with getting a hold of Luke

i think that the stormtroopers could have handled a numerically superior adversary. besides, more bespin guards makes it harder to sneak up on the stormtroopers, doesnt it?

E-E-E-E-E-EXACTLY. You must look the cloud city incident vis a vis Vader and his plans. The whole reason for all that hoopla at cloud city was to capture Luke. Ergo, getting the ends (Luke) justified the means (doing whatever to Leia, Han, and Chewie). Vader felt at liberty to do everything he wanted as long as it was in concordant with his plans. Also I think Vader kinda knew that he couldn't just let Chewie and Leia go, cuz they would do anything to get Han back. Particularly the wookie. ERGO! CONCORDANT! VIS A VIS!!!!!

I think Vader had hyperdrives, and Solo didn't. But I could be wrong...

The empire with Vader probably calculated the nearest locations, with cloud city being the obvious choice and yes the empire used light speed. But that Boba was in touch with the empire must be regarde as a fact. The empire lost track of Falcon so they thought it to be long gone. As we remember Boba floated along the garbage together with Falcon so he could have contacted Vader and told him the path Falcon was following and that would let Vader and his men get there before Flacon since they had hyperdrive and Falcon didnt

Quite how the Falcon got ANYWHERE without a hyperdirve... has always been a difficult point...

the time span between Falcon loosned from the SD until it got too Bespin must have been awhile
