How about the First ONE?
I wonder how the machines reacted to the first ONE, it seems they would have been totally unprepared when the first one appeared and started doing the things he could do. And what about what morpheus said, about the one being able to remake the matrix as he saw fit? Where and when does all that come in? NOVEMBER FIFTH .... why couldn't it be like tomorrow or something? 🙁
The first One would have been the person that made the demise of the Eden-like Matrix (according to the Architect, who counts the Matrices by anomalies)... so I suppose, not very well, as the Architect also said, "we are becoming very efficient at it [destroying Zion]" - so I guess they weren't prepared at all, really.

realize, vim, that what morpheus said in m1 is garbage becuase of everything the architect said in m2. as far as we know right now, the story of the first one was completely false. never happened.
but aside from that, you do have to wonder how they machines reacted to the first real one, the first anomaly.
The Matrix 1.0, the heavenly one was not disrupted by an anomaly. Rather it was destroyed by a cataclysmic system crash, since no human there would accept it.
Matrix 2.0 (the one we’ve seen), is running now for the 6th time. Morpheus only knows about this 6th run of Matrix 2.0, and the MAN he refers to, was the fifth anomaly, who was allowed to take 23 men and women from the Matrix 2.0 run 5 and rebuild Zion.
We know nothing about the FIRST One, the anomaly in Matrix 2.0 run 1. He may have been freed by free humans, since there is no reason to believe the machines caught all humans at the end of the man-machine war. Not freed the way Neo was, with people hacking into the Matrix (the free humans at that point would have no plugs, unless they fitted themselves with them), but either he freed himself like the kid and was fortunate enough to be found, or the free humans raided the “batteries”. Or the machines, knowing about the paradox of Matrix 2.0 helped free the first human.
The Architect who wrote Matrix version 1.0 and 2.0 would have expected the anomaly. He says in M2, that there was an inherent paradox in giving the sleeping humans a free coice.

The 1st perfect Matrix which was equalled in its perfection only by its monumental failure. The 2nd Matrix which was redesigned to "more accurately reflect the varying grotesqueries of your (humans) nature", also ended in failure. It was only when the Matrix was reconfigured to give their human batteries a 'choice' was there the emergence of the "systemic anomaly", "The One". So there were actually 8 versions of the Matrix. Two failed versions, five completed cycles and the sixth version on which the Matrix Trilogy is based.
