Ush has a good point. Namely that the previous Ones have chosen to keep silent, to corporate with the Machines to ensure the continued existence of the human race. It does make sense, come to think of it.
The previous Ones have gone through more or less the same ordeal as Neo has. At the time he meets the Architect he (or she?) has more power in the matrix than any other rebel, the machines are digging, and if he does not corporate, humanity perishes. If he can not end the war, why should the next One be able to? Why not prefer to keep humanity alive, albeit in slavery, than to be the doom of the entire species?

It's what I wondered ever since hearing the architects explanation as well. You are able to select a certain number of individuals from the matrix, and rebuild Zion. If you inform them, then they can inform whoever they free from the matrix, and those can inform others etc. etc.
This way, they can build new defense mechanisms, try new tactics while defending against the machines, trying to do something to stop it all...you know...If it fails, they'll get wiped out anyway. But if no one tells them, they get wiped out as well. End results remain the same. If I were one of the previous Anomalies I would have told them. I think...
Even though you choose not to tell them directly, the previous 'The One' must have heard of Neo's arrival there. Once they noticed that the machines were digging (again) he could have told everybody. Unless the previous 'the one' died ofcourse...but he could have made it a family secret, telling his (or her) son or daughter. Or maybe his best friend or something like that. You know, someone to warn the people of Zion at an appropriate time. Tell them exactly what's going on...and stuff...
I wonder why in the opening dialogue between Trinity and Cypher, Cypher says "We're going to kill him. You know understand that?" Maybe he meant we're going to get him killed.
Ok lets see here, Here's what we know about the previous One: He is born, inside the Matrix he lives he meets Morpheus, or equivalent, who says "You're the One" The One does cool stuff for a while then tries to end the war by reinserting his code into the mainframe. He then picks x amount of guys and gals then repopulates Zion. After he dies, the Oracle prophesizes his return and the cycle starts again. Keep adding to this people if you figure out more stuff
here's my understanding:
the fifth matrix has the one. he does neo-type shit and fights agents and whatnot.
the one meets the architect and reinserts his code to restart the matrix and therefore save humanity. as zion is wiped clean, he unplugs 23 people to begin anew.
perhaps this killed him?
either way, morpheus and the rest of the freeminds have no idea of the older matrices and hail this guy as the beginning of the resistance. the oracle plays along. a hundred years go by.
the anomaly begins to form a problem in the matrix again.
neo becomes the next one.
the cycle continues.
so maybe that's why he never told? because he's dead?
