Yes. If you read the Vertigo comic book Transmetropolitan (by Warren Ellis and Darrick Robertson) it's the symbol of a movement of separatist adolescents who "modified" their bodies to look like aliens. Its hard to explain if you've never read the comic. Definitely not for kids, but its an awesome book.
