After watching KB vol.2 last night. I couldn't get the character of Pai Mei outta my head. I don't know if many of you will agree with me, but Pai Mei is a very funny character!!!

If QT ever decides to make a spin off movie about Pai Mei. I will be there ready to watch it! I love this character!!! Gordon Liu did a good job portraying this character.

Anyway: I don't know how to describe this, but Pai was incredibly corny yet I loved him. I had a feeling that since he was so corny that I should hate having him in the movie, but I just couldn't bring myself to believe that. The whole play with his beard thing was annoying at first but in no time it was just funny (in a good way). It was also great to see what she had done with the things that she learned from him such as: punching through the coffin, plucking out eyes, and the pressure point thing that she killed Bill with. Although I wasn't a fan of the actual move that kills Bill, the symbolism that it showed was great.

remember the tale of the monk who "dissed" pai mei? well, i was watching the kill bill v.2 tonight and they shown a trailer of a movie called "hero"... if you remember that part from KB v.2 and seen the trailer, i would say that pai mei will be a part of that movie, but he'd probably have a different name...

hero has been rumoured for awhile,the trailer looked awesome!

He was pretty funny, but the theater that we were in, people were cracking up every time he stroked his beard and moustache... which was kinda annoying, wasn't that funny.

JKozzy - At first I agreed with you but that part grew on me and it did become funny. It was stupid at first but funny that he kept doing it.

i used to do that all the time...it was cute for awhile...then it got annoying...then people threatened to cut it...but yeah pai mei was hilarious...i loved the part when he was putting the bride in a arm lock...

He really was a great addition to the movie. I really like his spontaneous laughter outbursts.

I guess Elle could've made it up about killing Pai Mei so that Beatrix dies thinking her master was dead, but she certainly had a good reason for doing it though.

I wonder if all of D.I.V.A.S. were train by Pai Mei? Seems like Bill is very profesional when it comes to training his assasins.

the only other DVAS that i could imagine being trained by pai mei is o-ren ishii. budd is a straight up cowboy. he prolly can't unsheath his hanzo without getting cut... but that's another point.

Im sure he was good with his sword at one time, considering Bill asked him if he kept up on his swordplay.

Also Green could have been. She's the deadliest woman with a knife.

Tarantino did indeed cast himself to play Pai Mei and even went through with the martial arts training, but after pre-production he decided on giving the part to Gordon Liu. I think he only cast himself so he could get the training.

Actually he would train her. She is half Japanese and half Chinese. He is also not very fond of caucasians yet he still trained the bride.

Use the SPILERS, for god's sake, not everyone have seen Kill Bill 2 and some of the people may not want to know what happenes before they see it!

Pai Mei was probably the most vivid and memorable parts of the entire movie. He was great. I loved the constant referencing to all those Japanese kung-fu movies, like all the funny cuts and panning, like in the old Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan movies, that was great.

I loved the bits with The Bride and Pai Mei going through the motions of the training side by side, in silhouette form, along with that music, that was brilliant.

Thats what I loved. Kill Bill was Tarantino's take on Japanese kung fu movies, and he didnt fail to keep at least one element of that by getting Pai Mai character in there.

I don't know, that's weird. But I would like to say, as funny as Pai Mai was, when the audience laughs uncontrollably every time he strokes his beard, it is just plain annoying, I had the most ridiculous audience, they thought he was TOO funny...

Nah we had a packed house, and all I heard were a few belly laughs and giggles. It was cool, I definitely enjoyed it as much as Kill Bill 1 - although my friends I watched it with said it was "too slow" yadda yadda yadda (typical idiot comments like that)

Well, is like a funny gesture. If you watch some classic Kung fu movies you'll notice characters that resemble Pai Mei tend to be serious. Whereas Pai Mei stands alone becuase of his style.

Yes, it was funny, but not fall-out-of-your-seat-and-laugh-your-f*cking-ass-off funny.

I found it amusing, but I also don't understand why it's hilariously funny. It's not funny in the sense that people should be rolling in the aisles, and yet... they were. I just loved the dialouge between The Bride and Pai Mai, and some of the things he said, the beard part wasn't his only funny quality.

How is this Pai mei different from the other Pai Meis?

Well, I can't speak for the audience that was on your theather when Pai Mei came out on screen. But Pai Mei has charisma when teaching the Bride Kung fu. Old master living on a mountain with a deadly reputation sounds cool.

Agreed. Pai Mei was hilarious.

Again, my theater thought the beard thing was funney. I did not get it. I thought carrying the watter up the steps, and him hating women was funney, and the eat like a dog part was funney, but I missed the humor in the beard thing. Can anyone enlighten me? Also, again I ask, how does he compare to the original Pai Meis. I am sure QT put a slight twist on him. But, if we have not seen his normal character, we can not know how he chnaged for the film. QT does that. He takes an icon figure,a nd changes them slightly, sometime to make a serious point, and sometime to make it funney. We need to know more about the original Pai Mei to fully get all QT had in mind.

Just walking through best buy i noticed a lot of dvds with characters that resembled Pai Mei, i doubt they were all him though.

Yeah, some resemble Pai Mei. But I'm sure those are different characters than Pai Mei. Same style different character.

Even the guy in WindDancer's sig looks like him except for he is bald.

Hmm... perhaps you should check out Fist of The White Lotus with Gordon Lui. Pai Mei was not invented for the Kill Bill movies. Like Hattori Hanzo he was an adopted character from old Kung Fu flicks and television series. Great film if you like the character Pai Mei.

That's a great research you got there eleveninches. I think that the Pai Mei in KB is only a fictional character based on the original legend. White eye brows lol! that sounds like him alright.

It only took a couple of minutes of research. However, notice the different way of spelling the historical Pei Mei compared to the fictional Pai Mei

Hi there. The character in KB 2 is based on the character in fist of the white lotus played again by gorden liu. This in turn is loosely based on the historical pai mei (Pak mei, bak mei, bai mei depending on romanisation) who lived supposedly in about 1750. Facts are unclear but many claim that the origional monk escaped the burning of the Shaolin temple along with 4 others and may or may not have had something to do with its destruction. He then became a Daoist hermit on mount emei (sichuan) and developed his aggressive style that was later named after its creator. I myself practice the real kung fu style that he supposedly invented although there is no actual proof that he existed in real life at all. The system is designed to mame or kill an opponent as opposed to suppress or disable.

Pai Mei might not be dead! They didn't show him actually dying after he was poisoned...
people of that skill in Chinese martial arts and everything might also know meditation and acupuncture and stuff, they might know how to get poison out of their bloodstream. Yeah, I know he's a fictional (well, almost) character in a movie storyline thats already ended, and it dosent really matter, and I'm probably crazy for saying this, but I refuse to accept that Pai Mei is dead.

anyways, I just saw Kill Bill vol. 2 tonight as well... thats even more sad, but its a long story why.

Look guys if anyone is following up on the kill bill series youd know that in a few years the 3rd is coming out... the young black girl is going to avenge her mom being killed by uma thurman in the beginning seen of the first one. Or so thats how i understand... besides Sin City is prob his best film he really needs to get a movie going w/ Johnny Depp as the main character that would be a film

He has a "vital nerve" that, if hit can kill him! also he has learned to move this "vital nerve" around his body with the changing of each hour(or maybe it just naturally moves around

His kung fu is so advanced he can achieve weightlessness ( see kb2 standing on sword) which means basically the harder you attack him the quicker he floats away

FIsts of white lotus is my favourite although pai mei technically isn't in the film ( you see him get killed at the start by our heroes, but his classmate, chief of the lotus clan comes looking for revenge although he he IS pai mei from the first film, same actor, same abilities just with a different name!)

its really cool of quentin to do this... he also took earl magraw the texas ranger from dusk till dawn and put him as the same person in kill bill vol.1. its good the way quentin can do this with his movies
