MrGlass
I was thinking about get halo 2 but first i wanted to get the first one. i have a niece and nephew who love to play on my xbox everytime they come over. Is halo at high bloody violent level or could they handle. Is there an option where you can turn of the blood?

Revan X
no. but its not too graphic or graphic enough its a very good game but if you get halo2 get part one first. and how old are they?

MrGlass
10 and 6. what kind of violence is in the game. Is it like head explodin kinda stuff?

Samas-adian
Well, its not as bad as a some FPS games. But i dont think a six year old should play it. A ten year old could play if he clearly understands the material.

cal31
Well whenever my 6 year old cousin comes over, he always wants to play Halo right away, so it depends on what you want your child to play or not to play.

forumcrew
heads dont explode, there is some blood but bodies stay intact, and they are in full armor so you dont see people

MrGlass
so is it mostly like a alien blood? that was i mostly see in the clips and trailers.

Linkalicious
it's either green or blue blood....definitly not red blood. But there are marines that either get killed or are already killed on the floor. They look like lifeless corpses (not too high in graphic detail)

I love this game, and I am never one to deprive a child of a video game. So as long as he understands the concept that he's shooting video game monsters, and not real life humans.

I would think it would be alright. I would recommend renting it and playing the first 2 levels yourself to see if it's suitable for them. It's ultimately a choice parents have to make for their particular child.

Samas-adian
A 6 year old should play it though. The ten year old maybe, but not the 6 year old.

BackFire
I believe the game is rated M for mature (meant for people 17 years old+)

End of story.

Phoenix Aska
hahaha...A 6 and 10 yr old playing halo? I'm sorry but if u are like me and u play multiplayer a lot then u can't really imagine a 6yr old and 10 yr old kid being much of a challenge....besides little kids get frusterated and throw fits when they losse alot or get stuck in a level...they can play if they want too...just don't expect much out of them...

Linkalicious
Phoenix...somehow...i don't think he's particularly worried about how good his kids are going to be at the game.

I think he's worried about the content of the game to make sure it's appropriate for children of that age....

Phoenix Aska
OoO...well with what they see on T.V. now a days...halo looks like Barney that purple dinosaur ya know what I mean?

MrGlass
thx for you posts. So basically what I get is that it isnt as violent as M rated games go, being that most of the gore comes from the aliens rather than the humans. Is that it?

cal31
yeah, the only thing is that when you shoot another guy, blood splatters on the surrounding area, but if that isn't that bad to you, then I'd say it'd be fine for them to play.

Linkalicious
just make sure they understand video game bad guys from real life humans.

I don't want to be responsible for "Columbine 2: the kindergarten years"

Phoenix Aska
Halo is a good game for all people at all ages...just think of it as cops and robbers but in this case spartans and humans vs. covenant and flood

SaTsuJiN
theres hardly what you could call blood... its like red spatter... nothing chunky or heavily detailed.. just enough for you to realize the difference between human and alien blood.. the games not graphic at all.

Phoenix Aska
yup yup...and children can be a master chief for halloween!!!! that would be soooo kool to see someone walk around as a master chief for halloween...

Caboose
Halo is an intense game for kids that young. my cousin still gets freaked when sees flood.

I dont think the games content is acceptable for kids that young. The curse, and have mature themes. It is RATED M FOR PETES SAKE!!

Phoenix Aska
Some people don't act that way and are mature enough to play those kind of games...I mean come on, Mario gets kind of boring...

Caboose
it isnt acceptable at all. I didnt get my first shooter till I was 12. doesnt mean I hadnt played em, but it just isnt appropriate.
ESPECIALLY HALO 2

if they were a few years older, then by all means, the first halo would be fine. BUT halo was originally created with the T rating in mind. Halo 2 was created with the M rating in mind.
T= pg-13
M= rated R

cal31
Star Wars Episode II was rated PG and had a head cut off and an arm cut off, ratings do not mean a thing.

Phoenix Aska
I agree cal31...ratings are just warnings for parents who are too over-protective...

Silver Stardust
Being as it's rated M, it's probably not an appropriate game for a 6 and a 10 year old...but as far as M rated games go, it's pretty mild.

MrGlass
thx alot and I appreciate all your posts

Phoenix Aska
But who cares!!!! In halo they don't really curse and the game isn't that gorey...

Samas-adian
I think you guys are giving six year olds too much credit. They dont even know how to write very well for god sakes. They play hide and go seek, and eat Alphabits.
They are alot of games out there that a perfect for kids. Let them grow up and then they can play more mature games.

And its really funny Phoenix saying that a 6 year old is mature.

Darth Surgent
Halo is definitely child friendly. The grunts even sound like Ewoks! smile

Phoenix Aska
Hahaha...then...if a child doesn't know what he is doing why not let him/her play as long as they are having fun?

SaTsuJiN
the only way I think you'd need to coach them about gunplay is if they started showing signs of physical violence or something... but I dont believe that happens often so..

Linkalicious
If you're willing to take the time to create a thread on a message board to see if it's appropriate enough for your children...

Then I think you should either:

a.) sit down and play it to see if you approve of it as a parent
b.) sit down and play multiplayer with your kids...they'll love the bonding...and you can make sure they don't get all psycho as they grow up.

Caboose
dude their are plenty of more age appropriate games

Samas-adian
"Make sure they dont get all psycho when they grow up." Would not letting the kid play a violent game stop that?

((The_Anomaly))
yea its child friendly enough, hell the 6 year old will most likely beat the game in a few hours...

Phoenix Aska
Heh....the worst that can happen is a kid immitating the game...

((The_Anomaly))
nah its soo easy that the game will be over before the kid has time to immatate anything..

Darth Revan
In multiplayer mode, I think it's alright... But playing through the story is different. I wouldn't so much be worried about the violence as the fact that it might really freak a six year old kid out...

Phoenix Aska
No way....the worst that would happen is if a child immitates the master chief...which I have never seen happen before...

Darth Revan187
Me and my large group of 6 year old friends hold Halo tournaments at eachothers houses every Saturday night.

Phoenix Aska
Hahahaha....large 6 yr olds....femi is a stupid piece of shit and almost ruined ur halo game...

who knows what he was doing with it...

Note to guy who posted question...check up on ur kid every now and then...do not let him touch the game itself!!!

Caboose
I think it's important for every parent to review the content of the games before their kid plays it. before you start hatin on me, hear me out. their are many over protective parents, and to their kids, the ESRB is the biggest piece of shit, because it says a game is teen, and their parent wont get it for them. I played teen games much before the stupid rating said I should, but the first true M- rated game I played was perfect dark. For alot of parents, the ESRB is a guidline which helps them sort out appropriate content. sure it isnt always accurate, but it might stop the 6-year olds from playing GTA, or resident evil. My very own cousin, who is 7 now, played halo, and ended up scared of the flood(go figure?). I almost wet myself, when I saw the re-dead, and their piecing screams in ocarina of time.(the shadow temple was the hardest thing I ever did)(next to the godly frustrating water temple)

so, as a final note, dont be afraid of games, thinking they might make your kid a satanist or something, and act like a Nazi about the review system, following it to the letter. Just be sure to know what your getting into. It often can help if you sucribe to a game magazine, or review system of sorts, to help you sort out games that are unappropriate, without having to rent, or buy. Often you have to be the judge and say
" Do I want my kid or niece playing this game?"

*BTW renting is an awsome way to see if a game is appropriate.

SaTsuJiN
final thought : if parent is unsure of game content.. parent should research the game and/or play it hands-on themselves..

RaventheOnly
Fighting the Flood is rather graphic if i remember... they are scary up close for a 6-10 year old and there heads do get blown off along with limbs confused

Phoenix Aska
The level when they first introduce the flood can be scary....

When it shows that on guys camera memory thingy and it shows everyone dying and the masterchief sensing that something is wrong....

Darth Revan187
I am almost 18 and they still give me nightmares when I see them up close

RaventheOnly
that scene rocked eek!

Phoenix Aska
YES..I agree that scene was good...at least somebody knew what I was talking about....

Cipher
Here's a hint when buying videogames (in the US): check the rating which is prominently displayed on the front. M=17 and up, which is Halo's rating. Also, on the back there is description of the game's content. A few seconds of reading and you'll be informed....

§pearhead
Halo shouldn't be a rated M game though erm some starcraft cinematics, which is rated T, mind you, are a lot more graphic than halo

Cipher
Halo got that mainly for the blood (I think).

Phoenix Aska
ratings are dumb....

You shouldn't pay any attention to them.....

the only thing that makes a game rated m is for violence and blood/gore....

and maybe but very rarely nudity...

dark1365
Best scene in the game, other than in the first one, where the lifeboats get whipped out of the sky by the Covenant.

The Flood isn't really scary for me. First time i played it, the little balloon thingys came streaming out by the hundreds, and I'm like, "Yeeeeeehaw!"

But then a combat form lands on my head.

dark1365
You mean aboard that Science Vessel, and some guy's faces get torn off by Hydras? Yup, definitely.

Cipher
Its not as graphic as some games but it isn't meant for young kids.

Robo-Chocobo
ditto

the flood I was first like

"AHHHHHHHHHHH*BLAM BLAM* AAAHHHH*fire assault rifle*

AHHHHH*sprays combat forms*

what the?*gets melee'd by said combat form after I think it's dead*

Phoenix Aska
I didn't think the flood was scary at all...

I agree with 1365

I was like all right BRING IT BITCHES!!!!

Robo-Chocobo
WHen I first played it I was like ...woa. I had read the first book , and had gotten in on the whole, Halo has a cool story thing.

I played it on hard, no normal or easy, so for me, this was more a sense of. OMG WHAT THE F*** ARE THOSE.

I mean, I open a door, and come across, a wall painted in grunt blood. I see enemies running, and corpses all over the place. and then I am assaulted by zombie things that wont die. ( i later learn the pistol is more effective)

it could have been tweaked to be way more scarier...but seriously, anything that goes through a jackal brigade in under 1 min, with no guns or grenades, is tough in my book.

Phoenix Aska
I'm used to shooting enemies in the head now in Halo.....

i first started playing on Heroic....then Legendary then easy because I wanted to play as Rambo and just run through all the levels!!!

Robo-Chocobo
legendary is difficult enough where I have to make an actual batle plan. heroic is easy

Phoenix Aska
Yes...on the first level when all the elites are on the second floor is where you will need a good battle plan!!!!

SaTsuJiN
hasnt the question been answered yet? lol

mailedbypostman
Probably a bad idea. Wait until their 12, then they can have at it.

Phoenix Aska
I like debating over this issue....there should be a poll made for rating games and a big debate!!!

gabegoodman
My name is Gabe i'm a 13 year-old 7th grader and everyone I know says that I am a mature adult. I have never been in fights and hever never acted out anything I have seen in movies, even though I am an actor, do you think I should be able to play HALO Games. I meen the game has a very nice story. It is about being the good guy and saving the humans form aliens.

dark1365
The Grunts sound like Ewoks. It is definitely the most child-friendly Mature game i have ever seen. The least child-friendly? Manhunt, or MK Deception.

Robo-Chocobo
I would let a 13 year old play it, if they are mature enough. not so sure about a 10-12 year old.

anything below double digits is RESTRICTED!!

dragon leader
hey im 11 and i play halo 1&2 and im okay so it ok for kids to play oh and Phoenix Aska i will kick your butt on halo 1&2.

Halo is actually pretty tame by 3rd person shooter standards.

It's actually more real, blood just doesn't go splurging out of thier chest or anything. You might see bloodstains on the armor, or a little alien blood, but that's about it. I don't know why but for some reason whenever I make an explosion my guy goes flying like superman. Nobody else can fly like me lol.

I still wouldn't say Halo is "children friendly" however. Not so much the game itself. As Bill Gates isn't exactly shown much compassion for the kids. Which is ussualy how it goes. The less offenssive someone is, the bigger of a bastard they are in thier personal lives.

ragesRemorse
theres no gore, no foul language or extreme violence, which is why its prolly rated teen

SaTsuJiN
why do you think someone who posted 3 years ago would still be looking at this thread? >_>

ESB -1138
Whoo this is old

haermm I can't believe you're underaged and actually said your age in your post.

Kids these days need to learn to read the rules.
