Betageuze
Regular Thor.... from the Avengers

vs.

Thanos

who wins ?

does it need King or Rune King Thor to beat Thanos ?

Tron
Actually, I think he does.

KillAll
i dont think so. thor in the infinity gauntlet series (thanos with power gem) was beating him up till he teleported away thors hammer. he also was beating him up again right before thanos turned him to glass.

thor is physically menacing when he's not holding back.

GODSCRIBE
I think you have it confused maybe? Because Thor with the Power Gem, belt of strength while on Warrior Madness couldn't physically beat Thanos in hand to hand combat. He also taken Thor and Thing simultaneously in hand to hand. He has taken full on blows from Mjolnir withouth blinking.

Thanos 10/10

Wally West
Thanos is above Thor without question.

I was actually scanning through my copy of Avengers: Celestial Quest yesterday and he fights (albeit briefly) Thor plus like 5 other Avengers at once, Thor hits him from behind with Mjolnir and Thanos just swats/blasts him away with ease (while taking out Vision and Scarlet Witch).

GODSCRIBE
"you call yourselves strong? i am strength personified"

joesha28
Thanos. He matches Odin. Please Thor can't take him.

KillAll
thor has also fought and prevailed where odin has lost...

and i dont have it backward... thor puts up a hell of a fight when the universe is at stake and he's fighting thanos with power gem (infinity gauntlet series).

avengers shouldnt count. thats thor on a team. it just makes the villain seem more powerful. thor is often downplayed, to make the team look better (as in working together)

any issue numbers on the thanos fighting thor with gem, belt and warrior maddness?

Thanos_6383
Thanos...

Decay
yeah thanos takes this easy. thanos has taken out the surfer numerous times i think, and nobody seems to really know if thor could take surfer one on one when their out to kill eachother. thanos is a class above thor.

Juntai
In the Infinity Watch, Thanos left the fight, then came back with plot devices to take down Thor, lol.

Why are people acting like it's impossible?
Thor -has- knocked around Thanos before, and not just a one time offering.

leonidas
a well written thor, much like a well written ss, could give thanos trouble. especially if he loses it in battle and goes warrior mad.

thanos is more powerful, but thor could certainly give him a run. when both were amped in thor, thor ko'd him (though later retconned as a clone. have i mentioned how much i hate what marvel has done thanos who USED to be a very cool character?) thor had a good showing in ig against him as well. assuming no jobbing, it is closer than most appear to think.

GODSCRIBE
close....right. thanos still wins eventually as he has won majority of their encounters already. and current thanos is 10/10 without question.

Xplosive
No way could regular Thor beat Thanos. Thanos 10/10.

If it is Rune King Thor, than it would for RKT 10/10.

i mostly agree, though i'm not sure i'd say 10/10. wm thor can be a beast if we allow him in this fight.

you said current thanos though. has he had yet ANOTHER power-up somewhere recently?

grey fox
Thor is slapped around , he then later get's the crap kicked out of him by his dad for being such a dumbass.

supervenom
Happened already, plus Thor was more powerful than his regular self and Thanos still won.

I would tend to agree with you Leo as far as Thor being a difficult opponent. Until recently I would have said that Thanos would win 10/10 and completely dismiss the Thor in such a fight, but after looking into some of Thor's rather impressive and surprisingly diverse feats I too think it would be a good fight (assuming both fight to their full potential). While I'd still say Thanos takes a majority, I now have a healthier respect for Odin's kid.

Acrosurge
Thor as he was portrayed in Avengers was usually a watered-down version of how he was portrayed in his own book. Thanos takes that version down 10/10. Against Thor as portrayed in his own book, Thanos still takes home a solid majority. Thanos is simply beyond Thor in every conceivable category.

Mider
meh they say if thor used his powers to there fullest potential he'd be a pretty touch costomer cant his hammer steal souls or something even thanos is scared of having his soul stolen.

This statement is almost as silly as this subject of this thread. The gap between Odin and Thanos is greater than the large gap between Thanos and Thor. Whereas Thor can hurt (and under the right circumstances, kill) Thanos, Thanos simply doesnt have the raw power needed to even slightly hurt Odin.

On the other hand, Odin utterly fried Thanos. That, when Odin took pity and stopped roasting him (and gave him a chance to give up), Thanos was able to heal himself and slowly stand up is more a reflection of Thanos's courage (or masochistic tendencies) than anything else.

If Thanos saw Thor coming then he would certainly win. Thor's only chance would be to take Thanos down physically would be by surprise (such as in IG when Spiderman distracted him) or if by energy blast, have other's distract Thanos while Thor uses the God Force.

That's usually a last resort and might not even work on Thanos who is practically immortal.

lol since when? even the soul gem can barely take the soul of a Thanos doppleganger.

Validus
Thanos isn't beating Thor 10/10 people. That's a joke. Thanos is tough but lets not act like a Godblast to the mouth isn't going to hurt.

LMFAO, and how does he intend to give him a godblast to the mouth, when thanos has quicker reaction time than him, and can easily teleport away? roll eyes (sarcastic)

Anyway, Validus how did you change your username?

Thanos having quicker reaction time then Thor is debatable.
And when has Thanos Teleported away during battle?

Funny how that never comes up with Thor Vs anyone on this forum but Thanos. I'll remember that one in the next Thor Vs anyone with super speed argument of which Thanos hardly shows any by the way.

A 10/10 victory would imply that theres nothing in Thor's powerset that could score a KO on Thanos which clearly isn't the case.

In a pitched battle, 10/10 for Thanos is quite a possibility. Thanos is ruthless and would be almost never make a mistake or hold back. Quite the opposite with Thor.

Right. The problem is we're talking about Thanos using 100% of everything he has against a Thor using Mjolnir like a baseball bat and not the beastly weapon it is which is typical of Thor I admit. In that instance, 10/10 is a-ok. Against a Thor using Mjolnir the way it should be used, 10/10 isn't possible for anyone below a top tier skyfather or at least anyone without ridiculous super speed.

Agreed .... the creativive use of Moljnir has been severly lacking of recent times. smile

Thanos wins

the times they actually did battle (not a clone)

Thanos defeated Thor and his Hammer like it was nothing.

It must also be said that the upper limit of Thor's power hasnt been fully explored. For example, when fighting Drax and Maxam, Thor suddenly became much stronger than he was a moment before just because he got ticked off. Whereas initially Drax and Maxam were able to land simultaneous blows on him and together grab a hold of him, when Thor decided to break loose, he did so effortlessly and in the process knocked out Maxam (Drax was sent flying) one punch later Drax was KOd as well. How many people have KOd Drax with the Power Gem with a single punch. Earlier, Thor had KOd the silver surfer with one punch as well.

Thanos is not necessarily physically stronger than Thor or even as strong (when has Thanos beaten up Drax so easily?) but he is much tougher than Thor, Drax, Maxam, SS, etc and has the power to kill any of them. Add to that his ruthlessness and Thanos becomes an almost unbeatable package.

roughrider
Thanos nearly matched Odin, so on paper he's above Thor in most respects. He's very calm and strategic in a fight, while Thor's wild temper and lust for battle can get the better of him.

Thor has managed to take Thanos when he uses mjolnir more creatively - absorbing all the energy being blasted at him, then returning it for a K.O. for example. Godblast is damn good too, if it hits the mark. But yes, I agree Thanos has the edge in majority of matchups.

It looks like this, really:

Thanos>>>Thor.
Thanos = King Thor. (Possible stalemate.)
Rune King Thor>>>Thanos.
