Doomsday was born as am experiment to create the perfect being who would use evolution to defy death. After Doomsday reached his potential he killed his creator (Bertron) and every soul in sight. He was sealed in a chamber and sent away to Earth where he would later escape and face Superman in a battle to the death. Ironically enough, the creature that lead to Superman's death was actually created on Krypton several hundreds thousand years ago.

Doomsday later joined forces with Cyborg in Doomsday: Hunter & Prey. Superman found that he had evolved and now had the ability to shoot his boney spiked knuckles as poisonous barbs.

Again Doomsday returns, but this time he was set free by the heroes themselves when they needed help against Imperiex. Doomsday was quickly killed by Imperiex as he was no match for him.

Though Superman believed Doomsday was finished off by Imperiex, he returned again. This time he laid dormant in the lower levels of the Pentagon where he was released by The Joker! This time the evolution stunned everyone...intelligence!

Superman would actually use Doomsday's evolution against him as he made Doomsday think about the consequences of the fight, and how he feared death.
