I dont know what Thanos hopes to do agaisnt Mordru, he withstood a joint assult by the JSA and the Freedom Fighters and his sorcerous powers are amongst the most formidable in the DC universe. Mordru kills thanos with a gesture.

I think people should stop putting Thanos against characters who are clearly Skyfather or better. Mordu utterly curbstomps any Thanos level character, and if you feel different go read a Legion comic and watch him waste an entire team of Herald levelers and up.
