dont know the issue, but cyke absorbed a bolt of lightning from storm in order to produce an optic blast powerful enough to recharge he equivalent of a sun, i believe around arkon's world. pre-200s uncanny is my best guess.

Optic Blasts...

His blasts arent solar in nature... yes he absorbs solar energy, but what happens is the solar energy opens a dimensional portal in his eyes. The portal opens to a universe that consists of nothing but the ruby coloured energy he fires. The energy escapes through his eyes, creating an optic blast. The blasts do NOT give off heat or radiation, they are pure concussive force, nothing else...

Even though the most common way Cyclops activates his visor is by pressing a button beside his ear, he has on occasion used other means...

Uncanny X-Men #93, he fires his blasts simply by opening his eyes after keeping them closed for a prolonged amount of time... not exactly practical but it works..

People may argue that these instances could be attributed to the artists' habits, but i believe there are far too many instances to discount the possibility that his visor may open without the side button being pressed, that the button itself is merely used to change the intensity of the blast...

at least thats my theory...
