The battle between the Earth's heroes and Monarch, once again "Hawk". Monarch's blasts wound every superhero except Captain Atom. Captain Atom absorbs the organic matter blasts. The purpose of this blasts was to get rid all of Earth's greatest heroes, even Superman. However, it wasn't to long til both Monarch and Captain Atom were sent to the past.
With, but a single touch Atom scorches Apollo, Midnighter, and Jenny, who the spirit of the 21st century, also it's important to note he had an active void reaction in him
I know it's noncanon, but I liked the fight in the Justice League Unlimited series between Captain Atom & Superman. Cap really should have won because he was using red sun radiation, but it's Superman, so...
Captain Atom's able to rebuild his suit here. Showing off Matter Manipulation, which he has demonstrated before.
Let me make something clear here. Monarch, if he is our Earth's Captain Atom, has no power increase from the suit. The suit hasn't done anything more than sustain his energy. His powers were very much different before Armageddon, so it's best to assume his change in physical composition was because of the void being stripped from him and being sent across universes.
Captain Atom's powers are all based on sheer will. What's prevented him from excelling in the past was his confidence, but spending time in the Bleed, most likely warped his mind to be evil and sinister, and now he has a new found arrogance. So everything he's doing as Monarch is fully within his ability, there. is. no. power. increase. They're the same character, with different egos. Still this doesn't mean it's not poor writing, because it is. But hey, at least the scans are notable
