Is Darkseid...................
Truly a peer of Thanos? And vice versa? I've been a member of this board for quite some time and it appears to me as if he is a notch below and the only reason Ive gathered is his performance against Clark. Not a versus just curious
Darkseid's true form is vastly above Thanos. Crazily above.
Darkseid's avatar form, or boomtubed form is below Thanos, while still maintaining an "above herald" level range on average. A lot of that gets muddied when you look at his later showings vs Superman, but it could be attributed to Superman just going "all out" everytime he fought him.
Sin, I'll leave this open until you get a few solid replies. Hopefully the Thanos brigade won't come in here and kill the thread.
Trickster Priest knows a lot about DS and the New Gods. But he hasn't posted for a long while. I honestly can't keep track of his true form and avatars. Bran's post sounds good to me. Maybe some of the DCers can post thoughts?
You have to watch drawing conclusions from his fights with Supes. The DC writers flat out have said that they'll write Superman to be as strong as he needs to beat a threat. They've said that's part of his powerset.
I think Bran got it about right, though in my heart Darkseid, even 'avatar' form is >= to Thanos, but with all of Darkseid's low showings I can't fault anyone for thinking otherwise, as long as they don't try to tell me that Darkseid is Herald level or that Superman is >= to him because he's bested him twice in what are arguably two of his greatest combat showings (and in one case where he was sunamped), ignoring that if you look at all of Superman and Darkseid's confrontations, Darkseid is twice as likely to dispatch him with relative ease than to get beaten by him after a hard fight.
I really wish writers would have made more use of Darkseid's arcane powerset. If you look at Kirby's Darkseid he actually does seem like a god because of what he can do, like create an avatar of himself from cement and earth from another universe over (while technically 'dead' to top it off)...whereas in the last decade or so he was mostly limited to punching and blasting.

Almost every time Superman goes up against Darkseid, he brings his a-game and still loses more than he wins. This whole "Superman always stomps DS" bullshit is little more than a forum myth.
