I have been an avid Tolkein fan since I was about nine years old but I find I liked the original Tomb Raider much better than the LotR movies to date. Perhaps because the people producing LotR had such a great canvas to start with (Tolkein's books), I expected a much greater end product, but, if anything, aside from special effects, the LotR movies are extremely disappointing.
On the other hand, I did not expect much from a movie based on a computer game and so I was greatly impressed by the final product.
I agree...........Tomb Raider was a good adaptation.......could have been better still.
LoTR........I only watched the first one and was greatly disapointed. It was like a live action version of a Dungeons and Dragons game..........I can't get into this crap.
The first Lotr was boring...I only liked it because the ringwraiths were in alot of the scenes, the second one is much better even though it only has one ringwraith scene in it.
I liked both tomb raiders and LoTR's O_o I did get that empty " i want more " feeling from the LoTR movies though. Oh and Eowyn sucks.. she made 'the two towers' suck badly for me.. she was so useless as a character -_-)

FOTR was the whole story behind the saga........it was the best( i know its gonna be better than ROTK) made movie of the three......all u airheads out there who just like mindless action would never in a million years understand that.

Tomb raider is ok......entertaining but not a masterpiece as lotr...

yes PJ did leave out some stuff but we're alll happy that he made the movie to start with so quit ur whining...........hmmmm i guess if he put every single aspect from the book into the movie u pansies would still complain.......so i not arguing with anyone again.

If I ever made a movie.......it would be a horror movie. I wouldn't need all the money it took to make LoTR. I would make a movie for guys to take their dates too so they get scared and want to be held. I wouldn't make a movie like LoTR who's purpose is to occupy the time of those men who can't get dates or laid. "forget a pussy! I want to see Gandolf and Frodo!.....wizards and elves are so damn cool.....I hear titties are over rated anyway"..........

I was stating that the whole fantasy/mystical genre of movies is directed towards an akward audience......those people who like to play role playing games like Dungeons and Dragons....people who are generally thought of as nerds because they get so into fantasy works because they cannot attain a real relationship with people (well girls) outside of the fantasy realm. Lord of the Rings fits well into that genre. I did watch it.......it bored me to tears. I can't get into the whole Wizards and Elves type crap......some people can, good for you. My opinion still isn't changed. I think watching a man get ripped apart (hellraiser) is far cooler than anything an elf or wizard can do.

Theres no comparison.Marcos just says that he liked the books and expected a lot from the movie and in the end was disappointed. But from TR that he didnt expect anything he was surprised. At least thats what I got from his post.
I couldn't say between the two which I liked better. I assume your comparing the first movie from both series and if so I think tomb raider might have a slight edge. FOTR was good but like Satsujin said it did leave you wanting more which by all means is really what they wanted anyhow. I give the edge to Tomb Raider because it does a better job at standing alone as a good movie. FOTR needs TT and eventually ROTK to take it from good movie to great movie. By the way, that was a funny post Evil Dead I about spewed my soda reading that!

agreed. strange the title of this thread should be 'versus' indicating competition of sorts. I had low expectations for tomb raider and also felt that it came out great. I expected LoTR to be another screw up but was also surprised with its greatness. *slaps eowyn* you cant have aragorn!
When i read the title i thoughtjust that but after further thinking i can see why Marcus Black makes this copmraison. I think he believes that Tomb raider was done better than Lotr but still it made less money than LOTR. I agree on that. I enjoyed Lotr: FOTR but tomb raider was way better that any LOTR movie.
