Anime Racist ?

Im tired of people saying that anime is racist because there no [edit] in their shows or they are drawn different. Anime is for japanese people, so they make it with japanese characters, and theyare not much colored people in japan so please. Shows like Full metal A Naruto kenshin and some others are pure japanese, so what if they creators are racist or not just enjoy the JAPANESE SHOW. WWho agreess

They way I look at it, how many Americans or Black people do you see in Japan. Anime isn't made for us, its made for he Japanese, so all those minorities need to stop calling on everyone (I have noticed alot of minorities claim anime racist as well, but they generally call anything missing a few dark skinned people racist) I have no pitty on blacks and mexicans and whatnot who say that....my family was bitched about as well (We were gyspys..HELLO!!!!)

Anyway, enought ranting, I have managed to make a list of black/hispanics in anime/manga
1)That hot mexican in Zettai Kareshi(forgot his name)
2)Chocolove(Shaman King)
3)Anthy/Akito(Shoujo Kakumei Utena)
4)Chad(Bleach)
5)Random characters from Cowboy Bebop

Please don't use the "N" word. Is slang and rather offensive. Anime is a broad genre that covers sci-fi, fantasy, sports, soap opera, etc..etc... is basically about humanity. Certain anime series covers subjects like race, sexual preference, discrimination and is not trying to answer any of these topics instead it illustrates how human beings react to these issues. So rather than ask "how come there are no blacks in anime" why not watch the stories and maybe pick up a message about humanity the anime is illustrating rather than jump into conclusions.

btw-Robotech have colored characters.....white, black, brown, and purple. Don't paid attention to the colors....pay attention to the characters. 😉

How's that

How about you DON'T post that kind of stuff again?! That had nothing to do with the topic and is consider member bashing! Don't do it again!

it's fine for a member to call people ****** and just get a slap on the wrist huh Winddancer????
Well I think your whole rules here is garbage!!!!
People like that should be put in their place with the same dose of venom they dish out. Neither you or anybody is gonna deter them from doing it again by just posting up rules and regulations and slaps on the wrist.

That has been edited. What you did was Member bashing and that is NOT tolerated! He has a topic to discuss whereas you were bashing him and another member. This is unacceptable!

If you have a problem with the rules pm anytime! I don't want to see you bashing another member again. If you have a problem with a member make a report or pm a moderator, but DO NOT bash him/her!

Back on Topic..

Do not question Wind Dancer, hes not a noob to this, and hes right about the anime thing.

You call what he posted as a topic to discuss!!!
Then why don't I just post something like
Why are anime characters look like chinks???
That's a topic in your opinion???
Whatever

Not all anime is racist but most of the popular ones like Dbz And naruto witch are the most racist. Dbz draws black people like morons and treat white people like they are greedy and only care about ladies and there faces. Naruto has no other people than japanese because in an interview the guy said he dont like black people or white in his anime because they dont act like japs and there skin would look wierd in the anime of jap colored people. Th frown upon blacks, whites and hispanics, in general america. They have no respect.

Who cares what's in it... it's good anyways.

whoa man. no offense but you need to shut up immediately. Seriously if WD sees this post I'm pretty sure you'll get banned. Don't think these people wont ban because they will!(they've done it to me once over a stupid pm)And Don't argue with him. Just do as he says.

As for the racism i don't think it really exist. although some of you have made a few points dbz the truth of the matter is that the rest of the world is just a minority. Which to me is just fine since many of these animes are based in japan(which anime originated there) and the whole thing is like seeing it from their point of view.

But then again you might want to ask yourself"is diversity really necessary"? i mean they may take away a sense of realism that the creators trying to achieve since they felt they would be obligated to insert every minority just to become politically correct instead of just letting loose and let their creativity unravel.

But in any case as another person pointed out we should all just shut up and not get caught up in technicalities.

I believe the look of the anime characters began in the late 1980's and have remained such til now. The reason that most of the anime characters are causatian in origin is because the Japanese society is just that. There are a few African American characters, but they mostly remain as background characters.

i just wanna say to whoever said it chad from bleach is not black hes just very tanned 😉

Umm I gues since its Japan then its what japan thinks like in america on how we look at asians but I guess we dont let them look stupid like Japanese makes some of the american people stupid. They need to get out more.

Anime isn't prejudice or racists. It at times can be QUITE IGNORANT!! First off I would like to explore the SAMBO like representations of blacks in anime. The huge PINK LIPS harken back to a time when representations of blacks as jungle bunnies and watermellon pickers were the norm in the United States. This is where the japanese learned these image.

However, information freely flows now between cultures and animes continued use of these stereotypical images can no longer be attributed to ignorance. Japanese have somehow endearingly incorporated this image of black people into their cultural psyche, despite having access to other images of blacks. So this is in effect a racially motivated stereotype that Japanese artists refuse to let go.

I would also like to talk about the Japanese Image of blacks as sometype of sexual monsters. In hentai the black male is always shown as a sexual frankenstein defined by an inhumanly monsterous phallic member. The member being the sum total of who the character is. To add to this this character usually never speaks but is in the story to show the sexual varility of whatever woman is the focus of the lurid tale. This image was also learned from Americans.

Finallly, it has been argued that anime is made for japanese, however i don't recall anyone in anime looking the slightest bit japanese. They mostly look caucasian. Is this the self image of the Japanese or some secret desire to be white thats manifest in their popular art?

Japan is not above racial stereotyping and oppression of anyone, just ask most of the other asian countries about Japan's world war 2 imperialism. It stands to reason that some of these attitudes would be reserved for black people. However, this particular form of prejudice is a learned behavior so while we are blaming the japanese please spread some of that blame to america as well.

Wow, someone thought out their answer! Well, done! *claps*

I dont think anime is the least bit racist in my opinion it is just heavily based upon heritage. I actually think it has improved quite a bit. It use to be extremely hard to find black people but now you find them quite frequently among the diffrent animes. In animes such as rave masters the black female in it (her name escape my mind at the moment) she looks quite decent. But what i have noticed when they do portray african americans they give them the purple hair and the purple eyes which is pretty damn fictional (but whats to expect anime has been known for its out of box way of portraying people). But in the other hand you notice that sometimes when black people are portrayed they have the big nasty looking lips and just really frigged up, but like i said before slowly it is changing for the better.

*Sigh*okay let me try to answer all of this...

I find your first and third paragraphs totally unfounded. ive yet to find a minority in a anime that was portrayed that negatively. Do you have any proof or can you cite any sources of these claims?

as for second and last what more can you really say? racial slurs and prejudice spread like mad in the world. Do you think there is a nation out there where no one hates each other?Thats how it is in the world. wether you like it or not someones always going to be hating someone else based on what they are instead of who they are. But hey! look! we're progressing! It is getting better!

you dont really have a point in the fourth paragraph. thats just how anime is. In Rorouni Kenshin, Kenshin has red hair and kaoru has blue hair. Common sense would dictate that back then nobody had whacked out hair like theirs! And personally i approve of the character designs. That way you cant really distinguish who is or isnt japanese. Imagine that! In a way they are helping us look at people as people instead of their implied ethnicity.
