no, the sword would hit him yes, but not have lasting affect. The sword that ran him through at the end was the Armageddon blade, significantly more powerful than anything mercer would have, and even that War got up and walked away. Also it seems in game that no matter how high you fall you don't get hurt, adding more to War's durability

Alex is unharmed from any fall no matter the height. Im sure the Armageddon blade is stronger the his arm blade but it is strong enough to destroy tanks in 1 to 3 hits.
