Saw this yesterday, really enjoyed it. Solid flick. Not as interesting, plot-wise, as Gone Baby Gone, but very well-made and entertaining. A lot of the story is actually really conventional, something we've seen a bunch of times but the writing, acting, directing, and cinematography all put it a notch above the norm. Not to mention, as critics have been saying, a "wonderful sense of place," which is true. You can tell Affleck cares about capturing Boston accurately.
Jeremy Renner's fantastic in this, too, I was glad to see him in another movie after The Hurt Locker.
Meh...decent plot but the characterization was non existent...I didn't care who got killed and who didn't. There wasn't a single character in it I related to or found remotely interesting which was kind of lucky given that [SPOILER - highlight to read]: most of them get gunned down near the end anyway
Nope...He wasn't anything more than a dumb stereotypical bad guy that John Mclane would kill a hundred of in any Die Hard movie. The one character that could've used more screen time was the florist. Pete Postlethwaite is always a weird an interesting character in his US movies.
I thought he was really entertaining to watch, personally but the character was the archetypal "hothead." Like I said, the movie doesn't really transcend the conventions it employs. That said, I still thought it was highly enjoyable as an action/heist movie.
Want to see this ever since I saw the trailer with Inception. The bank heist scenes with the various disguises sold me. May catch it at the dollar cinema as I'm not sure if it warrants a regular viewing.
As an action movie it'd be ok because the robbery scenes are solid (quite funny in parts too...Like [SPOILER - highlight to read]: when they get out the car wearing the nun masks and they're right next to a cop car and there's a long awkward pause
But the action is far from the main focus of the film...That's supposed to be the relationship between the characters...And when you just don't give a shit about what happens to them then nothing that happens in those relationships has any impact on you as a viewer at all. Which is why I came away from the film feeling disappointed.
just saw this movie, was really boring, wasnt impressed with it,the ONLY thing I liked about it was getting to see pretty much the entire ballpark of Fenway Park. Because we got to see so much of that,I think I will get this movie just to look at those scenes.skip through the rest.
I think this film is my favorite of the year thus far. Really great performances. Chris Cooper steps in and with one scene nearly steals the whole show. Good action sequences too.
Heres my thoughts, sure it was 90% all action and the other 10% for character development. Well its not really fair to compare it to Heat because Heat has an extra 45 min of film time to build characters and one kick ass shootout. Heat was about the characters and not the action, Town was about the action and not the characters, IMO.
Just saw this at the cheap seats. Having been looking forward to this movie i was incredibly disappointed. This movie highly boring, at least for me. I'm not quite sure why it was so boring but i think it's one of two things...,the overall plot and the lack of intensity. Excluding the Bank heists there was little to no intensity in the characters, dialogue or character consequences. I also mention the story being a factor in how boring the movie is because this is definitely a movie we have all seen done many times before. A bank Robber that gets involved with someone involved in the robbery. The only difference between this movie and others of its kind is that this one takes it's sweet ass time telling the story and it also does so with little to regard to pacing. This is coming from a fan of Crime dramas and Ben Affleck...,you're not missing out on anything if you avoid this movie entirely. I'd give it a 4/10

I totally agree, really enjoyed it. At times Ben Affleck was brilliant the look on his face when he said "who the **** do you think you are!! " was top drawer.
