Horror Remake List

Would have been fab.

Ils doesn't need a remake, and The Strangers more or less went there...

POLTERGEIST remake:

It's official, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures has signed Vadim Perelman (HOUSE OF SAND AND FOG) to direct POLTERGEIST. Juliet Snowden and Stiles White are writing the script for the studio.

HOUSE ON SORORITY ROW

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that the Summit Entertainment horror feature SORORITY ROW begins shooting in Western Pennsylvania October 6. The remake of the 1983 slasher film HOUSE ON SORORITY ROW will be directed by Stewart Hendler of the Josh Holloway-starring chiller WHISPER, and stars Briana Evigan (daughter of Greg, from FEAR ITSELF’s NEW YEARS DAY episode) and Rumer Willis (daughter of Bruce, from the upcoming FROM WITHIN). Casting for 20 speaking roles and over 500 extras (mostly college-age, natch) from the Pittsburgh area is currently underway by Nancy Mosser Casting.

Over at the blog of Josh Stolberg, who scripted SORORITY with Pete Goldfinger, the writer reports that after previous directives to pen the movie as a PG-13, “The good news is that three days ago, Summit changed their minds and we are full-steam ahead on the R-rated version. I can’t tell you what a relief this is from a creative sense. As I’ve mentioned before, we’re not out to make torture porn and this still isn’t going to be an explicit exploitation picture - but it's nice to be able to write a horror movie the way it should be.”

I don't think the original was that good actually, can't really remember it.

Halloween II

A few months ago it was announced that Dimension Films' Bob Weinstein was getting Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo to helm a follow-up to Rob Zombie's remake. Rue Morgue Magazine spoke to the pair who confirm "it's a proposition we couldn't refuse." Maury explains they're reverent of Zombie's re-imagining of Michael Myers and they're out to put their stamp on the character not copy what came before them. "Therefore, our vision will be done with upmost respect, with a continuity of Zombie's work but also a real evolution of the world he set in place."

At least they got good film makers this time around, the remake of Halloween was terrible. Inside creators making Halloween II, nice!!

It will probably be a sequel to the remake, not a remake of the sequel.

With the different ending in Halloween, the filmmakers will probably have to go down a new path.

The first official Friday the 13th remake trailer will be on the Saw V showings in American cinemas.

The official version of the trailer for Platinum Dunes, Paramount Pictures and Warner Bros.' remake will be out on October 24th with prints of Lionsgate's SAW V

Can see one trailer for it at this link, it's not very clear since it's bootlegged. Don't know if this is the actual trailer they are going to put on before Saw V.

Looks action packed with a running Jason! That bit right at the end with him running towards that woman on the ground!! ARGHHHHHHHHHH. Unless he doesn't run and it's just some shitty friend playing a trick on the girl.

Dario Argento remake of THE BIRD WITH THE CRYSTAL PLUMAGE

Along with the SUSPIRIA remake that’s been being threatened for the last year or so, Argento told the interviewer that someone is looking to remake is original giallo classic, THE BIRD WITH THE CRYSTAL PLUMAGE . ”this is much more difficult to remake because there's a link to Italy in the 1970s, which is a little bit difficult to do.” he remarked, ”But if somebody wants to do that, okay (laughs).” Argento also revealed that the title for his latest film, GIALLO is more than likely going to be changing ”It's a title for us, so I'm sure now we will change that title” he told the site.

Also a MANIAC remake on the way too, I haven't seen the original, worth seeing?

Night of the Demons

Edward Furlong has joined the cast of NIGHT OF THE DEMONS, the remake of the classic '80s film where a group of teens end up at the Halloween party from hell. He joins Diora Baird (TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE THE BEGINNING), Shannon Elizabeth (AMERICAN PIE), Monica Keena (FREDDY VS. JASON), Tiffany Shepis and more. The remake is being directed by Adam Gierasch from a script by both Gierasch and Jace Anderson.

Attack of the Giant Leeches is getting an indie remake.

The Crazies:

Overture Films will produce and distribute a remake of the 1973 George A. Romero film says Variety. THE CRAZIES revolves around people in a small Kansas town who are beset by a virus that causes insanity and death after a mysterious toxin contaminates the local water supply. Breck Eisner (SAHARA) will helm from a script by Ray Wright and Scott Kosar. Michael Aguilar and Dean Georgaris will produce, and Romero will serve as executive producer. Production is set to begin early next year.

Hellraiser director:

Pascal Laugier is now chatting with the Weinstein Co. about the long-delayed film, which was once slated for release this forthcoming January. Laugier is the director of this year's widely praised French film MARTYRS.

Friday the 13th:

Actress Nana Visitor reportedly didn't make the cut of Platinum Dunes' test screened for audiences in Los Angeles. Visitor, frequently recognized as Major Kira on DEEP SPACE NINE, was cast as Pamela Voorhees in the Marcus Nispel-directed reboot of the Voorhees franchise. One viewer in the screening tells those on the boards at the F-13 Community web site that there is, "No mother in the movie, she is mentioned though (20 years prior to the movie)."

This test screening spy reported back with a positive opinion of the film saying there's more sex in it than any of the previous Friday entries, Jason was "strong" (although the viewer was on the fence about a few creative decisions made) and that there was definitely a door left open to a sequel. The remake will be out February 13, 2009.

I'll be looking forward to a running Jason. The other one, slow, lumbering, doofwad... is ... eh... BORING.

There is an official HD teaser trailer out for the Friday the 13th remake.

You know, it doesn't look that bad...

The Birds:

According to IMDB and various other sources such as the Metro UK, George Clooney is set to topline the remake of Alfred Hitchcock's classic 1963 adaptation of the a short story by Daphne Du Maurier. Martin Campbell is attached to direct the film that is about increasingly vicious birds that terrorize a small town.

A Tale of Two Sisters

Fangoria got a chance to speak with ace Korean director Kim Ji-woon, whose latest movie, the oddball Western THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE WEIRD, has garnered him some of the best reviews of his career. However, what we really wanted to know is whether he had any input on the upcoming U.S. remake of his acclaimed ghost story A TALE OF TWO SISTERS (the Hollywood version, opening January 30 from DreamWorks, has been rechristened THE UNINVITED - itself the name of a different Korean frightener from 2003!).

“I was never involved with THE UNINVITED,” he told Fangoria. “But I believe the overall mood will be much different from my TALE OF TWO SISTERS. My movie was a horror film, but it had a sort of sadness and subtle feeling from within. It was meant to be remembered as uniquely colorful, feminine and beautiful, and I don’t think you can expect those moods and tones from a Hollywood remake. My guess is the film will be a horror-thriller done in the Hollywood way, and I have heard that it is well-made. I haven’t seen it yet, but I hope that fans will think of the original and remake as two different movies.”

Hellraiser

French helmer Pascal Laugier (MARTYRS) is in final negotiations to write and direct Dimension's re-imagining of the HELLRAISER franchise says The Hollywood Reporter. The original 1987 feature, which director Clive Barker based on his own book "The Hellbound Heart", told the story of an unfaithful wife who attempts to assist her dead lover in his escape from hell.

More famously it introduced the demonic Cenobites and their leader Pinhead who became an enduring horror character. The creatures, made up of gory flesh-stretched make-up and rubber, appear in the story when summoned using an antique puzzle box. Laugier, who claims that he'll be very faithful to Barker's material, seems suited as MARTYRS is currently under much controversy due to its unrelenting violent nature.

Looks like he will be doing it now.

Just like the Inside directors, this will fall through, I bet.

Actually, when I saw the trailer I thought of something rather like Kim Ji-Woon just described. Something sad and lonely and potentially beautiful. I think the trailer is going to play up the horror elements as much as possible to try and appeal to the mainstream horror audience, but the bits and pieces we do see are quite lovely. I think it's going to be a good remake.

Halloween II, sequel to Halloween remake:

Its official: Rob Zombie's 2007 remake of HALLOWEEN is getting a sequel. Producer Malek Akkad was on hand in Pasadena over the weekend for the "Halloween: 30 Years of Terror" convention and he confirmed that a theatrical release is planned for a follow-up. Tyler Mane is encoring as Michael Myers with pre-production expected to begin this January. Shooting is scheduled to commence sometime in March. Akkad is still in negotiations with a potential director, and would not confirm that Alexandre Bustillo and Julien Maury (INSIDE) were a lock for the job as some online outlets have reported.

Please don't let the Inside directors direct this.

Let the Martyrs director direct it for all I care, I haven't seen it and don't think it will be as good as Inside.
